As

delegatesto the68thNational

FFA Convention,

469

FFA members found themselves

privileged

with

the

opportunity

of a lifetime: to

change

the futureof theirorganization.

Divided

into13

committees,

the delegates

brainstormed new

ideasfor

FFA

policies

and programs. They submitted

their

recommendations

to the entiredelegate

body

fordelibera- tionbefore

sending them on

tothe National

FFA Board

ofDirectorsfor consideration. Inaddition,delegates

voted on important changes

tothe national constitution

and

bylaws.

Voices resonated

through

the

cavernous main

arena

Wednesday morning

asthe

emphatic

delegates consideredthe

committees' recommen-

dations.

The

session

began with

the usualroll call

and approval

ofthe previous convention's minutes.

K.

Eugene

Eulinger, the

new

national treasurer,deliveredhisfirst

convention

treasurer'sreporttothedelegates.

Emotions

ran

high during

the

morning

session'sdiscussionof the

Leadership and

Personal

Development Committee's

report.

The committee suggested

the

FFA

consider

holding

the

Washington Leadership Conference on

the

West Coast

to

provide

costsavings forthose

FFA members. The recom- mendation was withdrawn

following objectionsto

moving

theconference

from

itstraditional location.

More debate

followed

with

the

committee's recommendation

tocreateseparate

Made

greenhands and

upperclass

members

tobetter

meet each grade

level'sneeds.

This

recommendation was

also defeated.

However,

delegatesdid

back

the

committee's endorsement

of creating

an FFA commercial

toair

on

nationaltelevision

during

National

FFA Week.

Many committees came

forth

with

ideasto

put FFA on

theinformation

superhighway. The Chapter

Activities

Committee proposed providing

e-mail accessto

members. The Communica-

tions

and

Public Relations

Committee suggested an FFA "home page" on

the Internet.

That committee

also

advo-

cated

minting

a

stamp

forthe 75th anniversaryof

FFA.

The Membership Recruitment and

Participation

Committee recom- mended

the

development

of a

motiva-

tionalconferenceforadvisors similar to the

Made

program. Other

sugges- tions

by

the

committee

included creatinganational

Delegates

tocreate internshipsfor

tion.

At

theafternoon business sessioninBartle Hall,thedelegates

debated and voted on

six

amendments

to theNational

FFA

Constitution

and

Bylaws. Delegates

voted

toincrease National

FFA Organization dues

to$5 peryear.

They voted down

a

proposed

increase inthe

amount

ofproductively investeddollars

and hours

necessaryto earnthe

American FFA

Degree,

from

$7,500to $10,000.

The

delegation

approved

a

change

to the

requirements

forthe

Greenhand FFA

Degree.

To be

eligible forthedegree,

members must now

learn

and

explainthe

FFA

Creed,Motto, Salute

and Mission

Statement.

However, members may no

longer

need

to

know

the

FFA Code

of Ethics

and proper

useofthe

jacket.

The

topic ofregional

The

delegates
