Mr Kartolo is very happy. The rainy season of this year makes the farm beautiful. It is planting time, rice fields become fresh and green during this season and by the end of this season Mr Kartolo is ready harvest his crops.

Mr Kartolo ploughs the land at the beginning of the rainy season. Then, usually works early and finishes at noon. Milking the cows, feeding the livestock and cleaning the barns are among Mr Kartolo’s duties before breakfast. He does most of the hard outdoor work by himself.

Indonesia is famous for its batik. Every where you go you see people wearing batik shirts and dresses. Indonesia also like to use it for tablecloths and for curtains. Every in Indonesia batik has many uses.

Now, many fashion designers use batik for their medium to create clothes. They are Charmanita, Iwan Tirta, and Obin. They are very famous for their works. Iwan Tirta for instance designed shirts for American President Bill Clinton and gowns for his wife.

Virtually, other designers from other countries have also used batik to create the good clothes. Batik become an important part of fashion designing in the world.

SINGAPORE

Singapore is an island city of about 4 million people. It’s a beautiful city with lots of parks and open spaces. It’s also a clean city.

In Chinatown there are rows of old shop houses. The government buildings in Singapore are very beautiful and date from the colonial days.

Singapore is famous for its shops and restaurants. There are many good shopping centers. Most of the goods are duty free. Singapore’s restaurants sell Chinese, Indian, Malay and European food, and the prices are quite reasonable.
