FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter particulary presents the findings of research cover the descpription of the students’ improvement in write narrative text and mechanics.

The findings of the research cover the result of the data pretest and posttest.

applying treatment the students’using information Gap method improved.

It is proved by students’ mean score of posttest in Orientation is 78.33, Complication is 70 and Re-orientation is 83.33. It is classified as good. So, the improvement of students’ achievement in the generic structure in narrative text in Orientation is 59.30%, Complication is42.36%and Re- orientation is85.17%. It means that, using information gap method is effective to improve students’the generic structure in narrative text.

pretest was greater than students’ score in posttest. Thus, using information gap method iseffective to improve students’ of the generic struture in narrative text.

Tabel 4.2 indicates that there are differences of students’ score of pretest and posttest of mechanics in narrative text. The data analysis shows the students’ mean score improves from pretest to posttest. The students’ mean score of pretest in puncuation is 53.33, spelling is 43.33 and capitalization is 58.33. Itis classified as poor. However, after applying treatment the students’ using information Gap method improved. It is proved by students’ mean score of posttest inpuncuation is79.1, spelling is 77.5 and capitalization is 81.17. It is classified as good. So, the improvement of students’ in the generic structure in narrative text in puncuation is 48.32%, spelling is 78.85%and capitalizationis 39.15%. It means that, using information gap methodis effective to improve students’

mechanics in narrative text:

Figure 4.2: The mean score of students’ the mechanics in narrative text:

Figure 4.2 indicates the difference mean score of students’ the mechanics inpretest and posttest. Thestudents’ mean scoreof puncuation is48.32. The students’ mean score of spelling is 78.85and the mean score of capitalization is 39.15. It means that students’ score in pretest was greater than students’ score in posttest. Thus, using information gap methodiseffective to improve students’of the generic struture in narrative text.

In order to know whether or the mean score is different from the two variable (pretest and posttest) at the level of significance 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) = N–1 where N = number of subject (30) the t-test statistical

analysis for non independentsample was applied. The result of the t-test the generic structure in narrative text is t = 12.96 and the result of t-test mechanics in narrative text is t = 14.09 The following table shows the result of the t-test calculation.

Table 4.3

The t-test of the student’s ability to use prepositions in writing sentences Variable t-test value t-table value

X2X1 12.96 2.045

----X2 14.09 2.045

4. Hypothesis Testing

The result of the t-test of the generic structure in narrative text was 12.96while t-table was 2.045 and the result of the t-test of the mechanics in narrative text was 14.09 while t-table was 2.045 it indicates that the result of the t-test is greater than the value of the t-table. The result of test is more significant at the poor and fair level. Thus the null hypothesis was rejected.

Therefore, there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest, in the use of information gap method to improve the student’s achievement. In order words, information gap methodeffective to be used in teaching narrative text in writing.
