BAB V CONCLUSION, IMPLICATION, AND SUGGESTION

B. Implication

This research aimed to know teachers’ perception and implementation of CLT approach in teaching English language specific for students’ speaking skill. The researcher hopes this research can help both teachers and students for their teaching and learning process. The results of this research are expected to give some contributions in the form of theoretical and pedagogical implications for teachers, students, and future researchers. The pedagogical implication for the teachers is that they can take benefits from this research for their knowledge about CLT approach in depth, because in this research already mentioned the principles, characteristics, and procedures in using CLT approach. The teachers can take more control and make the classroom situation more interesting for the students. Start from making creative and new media learning which can encourage students’ speaking skill. For students, this research would give them an understanding for their actions in the classroom specific for their speaking skill. Future research would take benefit in considering the analysis results to investigate further about perceptions and implementation of CLT approach.

55 C. Suggestions

After analyzing and gathering the findings about teachers’ perception and implementation on CLT approach for students speaking skill, the research has some suggestions:

The Teachers

With all due respect these suggestions from the researcher are to make the teachers and students enjoy the teaching and learning process, and at the end reach the goals.

It is suggested that the teachers have seminars, study together, or some kinds of activities to recall and add their knowledge about teaching English language, especially about the teaching approaches. The researcher really thinks that these activities are very useful for the teachers and will give positive and good impacts for the students. In order to make the learning process not boring but makes it interesting that students look forward too. They will enjoy the learning process and achieve the goals of learning English language, especially for they speaking skill.

The students

Teaching and learning are two activities that need teacher and student. Here, the students should have a willingness to learn, to do what the teachers ask in the classroom. Specially for speaking, the students should interact and try to speak more. The teachers already prepare all elements for teaching in the classroom, for speaking they have their own medias to encourage the students to speak, but these preparations will not use if there is no cooperation between the teachers and students.

Further Researchers

The suggestion goes to further researchers, this research only for teachers at Thawalib Parabek Islamic Boarding School (Aliyah) and specifically for using CLT approach for students speaking skill. As a result, it is suggested for other researchers to make this research developed, to analyzed about CLT in English classroom in general, means also talk about other skill in learning English language; writing,

56

reading, and listening, since CLT can be used for all skills. Then also add other schools to compare it.

INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPTION

A. PARTICIPANT 1

1. What is your perception regarding CLT?

Ok, CLT is one of the teaching approachs used to improve English language skills, especially in terms of specific skills.

2. Why for speaking? It is it because of the communication/communicative?

yes...because it's communicative/communication..it means speaking or speaking right.

3. Furthermore, what impact did you feel or the reaction you saw from the students when you tried to apply this CLT?

when applying this approach the students are motivated and actively participate in the class while communicating.

4. Why are students motivate and participate in Sir? Is it because of friends or incorec Sir?

yes, everything is possible, it is exists because of the support of friends and also because of incorec so that finally they (students) are active in class

5. Now Sir, about Sir to apply this CLT concept in class, what are the challenges that you face?

Look, this CLT is communication, so in communication or language it's the vocab that is important…so the big problem is that the student's vocab is lacking, so this CLT approach is not optimal when applied.

6. Oh yes Sir.. if I'm not mistaken it's in class 4.. how is the vocabgoing on what's lacking in Sir?

Yes that's right..still lacking

84

7. Then Sir, what is the solution to overcome the student's lack of vocabulary, Sir?

yes, among them, Sir provides books, such as vocabulary of more than 1000 words, which also includes how to read it, changes in words, there is also an exercise sheets… so with this students can actually study anywhere, at home, in class for increase vocabularyand that I oblige every student to have it.

8. Then in class, is there any practice in using the vocabulary, Sir?

Yes, that's right, before studying in class, Sir held an exercise first in using the vocabulary for about 10 minutes

9. Next, what do you believe about CLT?

Yes, CLT is quite good, especially for students' practice in communicating…but it will be even better if students have a lot of vocabulary and it will be more active 10. So again, the problem is in vocabulary, right, Sir?

Yes, that is true..

11. Overall, how many students are not fluent in vocab, do they have vocab?

Yes, it's decreased a little now, because it was influenced by the condition of yesterday's online learning approach.

12. Then what is the role of Sir in this CLT in the classroom?

I try to make interesting learning media so that students are provoked to communicate, besides that, as one of the language coordinators, I collaborate with public relations, like we invite lecturers who graduate from abroad with the aim of creating motivationstudents to speak the language…Then we also read foreign language news for and we make group cases, then we take part in competitions such as story telling.

85

13. Then Sir, for students to read news, steling stories and competitions, students are chosen, randomly or observed or how Sir?

At first, of course, we give equal opportunities to all students, new seeds appear from the class, so we jSir collect them and then we give them exercises?

14. how is Sir’s effort in implementing Sir's clt?

because this CLT is related to speaking..then students mSir first get used to it in speaking or speaking. to practice it, we make it through reading English news, then play the video, then through that then we ask students to try to observe and understand it.. then students are asked to make a conclusion from the reading or video in English. Besides that, we also make role play through student dialogue.

15. Then according to Sir, do you think implementing CLT in Indonesia or in schools is appropriate or how about Sir??

I think it's suitable, because this approach aims to train students' language quality skills..and speaking is very important.

16. Sir about the media, do you use media for engaging the learning activities? And what are those?

Yes, the media were like videos, films, movies, so we usually play and in the middle we cona pose, then we will ask students to repeat what was said, or give a question to students related to the video

17. Next Sir, related to the effort to implement the CLT, do you think there is some kind of deficiency or limitation that Sir feels?

Yes, there are.

86 18. Then what are the limitations or limitations, Sir?

Yes, there mSir be shortcomings or limitations, yes, but we also continue to improve ourselves... yes, currently these limitations or shortcomings are like language labor that doesn't exist yet..

preparing it with the current development…in terms of the laboratory language it is very important and decisive as well, because the labor will also be equipped with various other facilities to support the laboratory, such as speakers, infocus and others…Now, for example, infocus, there are some infocues but not all of the teachers can use it

19. With such limitations, Sir, how do you handle it?

Yes.. it is like infocus, which is limited, so the teachers need to queue.. yes, it's like making a schedule.

20. Lastly Sir, in CLT there is also writing, reading and communication, but the priority is communication. Now communication is also related to sentence structure or grammar, related to grammar, how is the grammar of the current students Sir?

Like this, in speaking today, maybe our grammars try to put it aside first, with the meaning of the word, at this time we are trying how the students want to speak or speak in English, and the important thing is what they say the students understand and understand, that was first, ... well on the wayLater, we will improve the grammar slowly…but the important thing is how to be able to speak and understand what is being said…that was very important.

B. Participant 2

1. With regard to Sir's CLT, what do you think about the Sir's perception of the CLT?

Actually, in learning communication, the thing that is very decisive, it can even be ascertained that without good communication the learning process will not run. If learning is not achieved then the goal will not be achieved. So when asked about perception, communication is very decisive and CLT is related to communication.

87

Besides that, without good communication, it will become rigid and not work. Thus Clt is very important and decisive

2. Then regarding the impact of Sir, what do you think of the impact of using CLT?

Yes, it seems very clear because the key to learning is communication..because in kjan learning there mSir be interaction..in interaction, communication is what determines. So the existence of CLT will clearly have an impact on the learning process and the goals achieved.

3. From the application of the CLT, Sir, what about the response of the students?

Yes, if students are yes, they don't understand what CLT is.. but how do we apply this approach in learning with them, then they feel it, so far with this approach they have responded well, yes.. yes, it can be seen from their way. .their answer is yes it's because of usapply the CLT earlier... so with good communication they also respond well.

4. Does it mean that Sir's approach is through good communication?

Yes, that's right, because that's what determines.

5. Even with mixed languages, not full English?

Yes, it's okay… we can't have full english.. because our students are diverse from various regions.. different abilities. Of course it's not possible to use full language…

in fact, if full language doesn't work, it will be hard for the students so we also understand the ability to communicate in this way goal achieved.

6. furthermore Sir, regarding this CLT In Indonesia and in Parabek in particular, CLT is suitable or what, Sir?

Yes, parabek is very suitable… if we don't apply it, as stated earlier, it won't work.

There will be gaps created from bad communication or bad language.

88

7. Then with the teacher who applies how does Sir fit or what?

If the teacher is of course very dependent on several things such as the material presented and at that time what the teacher's role in the material was. because of course the material is very diverse and the way of delivering it will certainly be adjSired, as well as the role of the teacher in the material, .. there is a teacher whose role is as a center or as a facilitator, like yesterday's material.. I can't be a center because of the material.

8. And then about the learnings’ media, what usually Sir use in class?

The media also determines learning..as you saw earlier, Sir uses picture media…well actually the media is also very dependent on the material being conveyed….and there are certain phases…besides that it is also adjSired to the majors..for example between biology and social studies.. so it jSir be adjSired 9. So what media that Sirah use? maybe like pictures,..or games..or cards?

Oo..yes again, it's adjSired to the material.. I didn't use games, pictures, and cards, it depended.. as for the congratulation material it uses pictures, even the pictures are asked to the students, means they make it.

10. What about role play?

For class 5, I don't use it.. but for class 6, I can use it

there is also the text given and it depends on the material being discussed

11. What about the implementation of CLT in this school, Sir? are there any limitations?

yes, of course there are limitations, but every teacher is asked if there are obstacles or limitations that mSir be addressed..such as examples of limitations in infocus learning,..now we have to find solutions by way of replacing with pictures for example or others...yes we can find other ways.
