Key Seeds Technology Increases Agricultural Productivity

Low productivity of several food commodities with high dependence on import is still one of Indonesia’s challenges in creating national food security. On the other hand, the needs for food continue to increase along with the rate of population growth.

Indonesia is expected to experience a surge in national food needs up to 40% by 2030 along with the country’s population which is estimated to reach 345 million people.

But ironically agriculture land in the country is decreasing.

With this problem, Indonesia has no alternative but to increase its food production using the available land.

One of the most effective and efficient ways to increase the productivity of agricultural sector is through the utilization of modern seeds breeding technology. BISI presence is to answer this challenge. Since its operation in 1983, BISI has produced high-quality seeds products and agricultural facilities of fertilizers and pesticides to support efforts in increasing agricultural productivity both inside and outside the country.

BISI pioneered the hybrid seeds breeding in Indonesia by combining the concept of modern breeding in the Plant Biotech Laboratory with Conventional Breeding to create superior seeds of a wide varieties of field crop. This combination has advantages, such as more precise research results and its test times can be shortened therefore more innovations can be produced in a short time.

BISI’s seeds breeding technology also keeps on developing.

If initially superior seeds developed are only based on results such as have high productivity, resistant to pests and diseases, and have strong adaptability to various environmental conditions triggered by climate change namely drought and extreme weather, now superior seeds

seperti kekeringan dan cuaca ekstrim, kini benih unggul yang dikembangkan dan dihasilkan BISI juga turut mempertimbangkan preferensi konsumen seperti bentuk dan rasa yang unggul.

Sejak beroperasi tahun 1983 lalu, PT BISI Internasional Tbk sudah menciptakan 311 varietas benih tanaman unggul komoditi jagung, padi dan hortikultura. Kami menargetkan setiap tahun mampu meluncurkan produk benih

baru dengan karakter yang lebih unggul dari generasi sebelumnya.

Inovasi yang dilakukan BISI selama ini didukung oleh SDM terbaik di sektor pertanian Indonesia dan juga infrastruktur teknologi benih yang lengkap dan canggih. Semua produk benih hibrida BISI yang dilepas ke pasar telah melalui proses seleksi, penelitian dan pengembangan produk yang sangat ketat dan melalui berbagai tahapan riset.

BISI memiliki fasilitas riset yang lengkap dan modern serta telah telah terakreditasi berdasarkan SnI ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Sehingga memungkinkan untuk melakukan uji tanam multi lokasi di berbagai tempat di Indonesia, dengan cekaman cuaca dan ketinggian tanah yang berbeda-beda. Dengan proses seleksi, penelitian dan uji coba yang ketat ini diharapkan produk yang dilepas memiliki keunggulan adaptasi yang baik, sehingga nantinya mampu ditanam di seluruh wilayah pertanian utama di Indonesia dengan hasil yang memuaskan.

As a result, it is possible for BISI to conduct multi- location planting tests in various locations in Indonesia, with varying weather stresses and soil elevations. With this rigorous selection, research and trials process, it is expected that the products released have good adaptation, thus eventually it can be planted in all major agricultural areas in Indonesia with satisfactory results.
