10. MALARIA
1. Malaria is still a serious problem in our country, even we have been trying to destroy it. The facts we gathered in Java and Bali which had 80 million people in 1970, told us that there were many people suffered from malaria.
2. In the past, men thought that this epidemic had connection with the bad air. This fact can be proved on the name they called to this epidemic. Malaria derives from Italian term. This term derives from the word “mala” means “bad” and “aria” means “air”.
At that time people thought that the bad air from the marshes which cause malaria.
3. This kind of conception close the posibility to over come the epidemic. Fortunately there were some people who did not believe on the old conception view. Really the malaria problem had been confronted since it threatened human being, but men need a very long time to solve the problem.
4. To find the cause people had to do something. People had to make experiments. Charles Laveran, a French military doctor in 1880 worked in Algiers. He examine d the blood of a malaria patient accurately. In the examination he found that there were strange thing in the blood of every patient. The thing like rings.
He didn’t find that thing in the blood of healthy persons. He thought that his discovery had connect ion with malaria.
5. Then he made an experiment. He injected the patient’s blood to a healthy person. The healthy person become ill. In 1897 Ronald Roos made another experiment. He wanted to know how malaria infected. Based on his experiment he thought that the infection was cause by insect biting.
6. Now we know that malaria is infect by Anopheles. To prevent malaria we have to destroy anopheles mosquitoes.
According to the experiment we know how anopheles lives. It has four stages of its life history. They are eggs, larva, cocoon and adult mosquitoes. The female mosquitoes lay their eggs on the water or on the moisty places. The eggs float on their water in a week. After the eggs hatch, the larvas become cocons, then they change into mosquitoes.
7. Knowing the mosquitoes life we try to develop the way to destroy them. There are some insecticides, for example DDT and EHC. Tnsecticides are preparations used for killing mosquitoes.
The way of using them is by sprying. Besides sprying, drainage will help much because it does not give chances the mosquitoes to lay their eggs.

BIODATA SINGKAT PENULIS
DR.MOHAMMAD ARIF, MA., dilahirkan di Dsn Pandanasri Ds Lambangkuning Kertosono Nganjuk Jawa Timur, dari keluarga ayah (Bpk Suyitno telah meninggal sejak penulis masih kelas1 MA) seorang wiraswasta dan Ibu (Ibu Siti Aminah) seorang petani.
Pada Januari tahun 1999 penulis mengakhiri masa lajang dan berlabuh pada seorang wanita yang menjadi pendamping hidup (Nur Khotimah) dan dikaruniai seorang anak perempuan bernama Vika Faiza Rahma ( 12 th), seorang anak laki- laki dengan nama M. Alvin Faizi (6 th).
Pendidikan Dasar ditempuh di SDN Lambangkuning I, melanjutkan ke SMPN1 Kertosono, kemudian ke MAN Nglawak Kertosono. Pendidikan tinggi ditempuh dari S1 IAIN Sunan Ampel Kediri (sekarang STAIN Kediri), S2 di STAIN Malang (sekarang UIN Malang, melanjutkan S3 di IAIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya.
Dalam bidang ilmu ke-Islaman, penulis menuntut ilmu di Pon Pes. Darul Muta’alimin Pandanasri Kertosono, Pon.Pes. Al Hikmah Ngronggo Kota Kediri, dan Pon.Pes. Miftahul ‘Ula Nglawak Kertosono, yang sekarang sebagai tempat mengabdikan diri dan mengembangkan ilmu penulis.
Selesai dari bangku kuliah, penulis mengembangkan ilmu dan karir dalam bidang pendidikan dengan mengajar di beberapa sekolah di wilayah Kertosono, juga memberi kuliah di beberapa Perguruan Tinggi., diantaranya : STAI Miftahul
‘Ula Nglawak Kertosono, UNDAR Jombang, UNSURI Surabaya di Magetan, STAI Ma’arif Magetan., Pada tahun 2006 diterima sebagai PNS dan tercatat sebagai dosen DPK STAIN Kediri yang ditugaskan di STAI Miftahul ‘Ula sebagai in stitusi yang dirintis sejak tahun 1995.
Untuk mengembangkan kualitias, penulis juga aktif di berbagai organisasi dalam masyarakat. Juga aktif mengikuti beberapa workshop dan seminar, diantaranya : (1) workshop tentang TOT AMT Pondok Pesantren Se-Jatim oleh Depnaker Propinsi Jawa Timur tahun 1995, (2) Pelatihan Nasional Bahasa Inggris oleh PPGT Depdikbud di Bandung 6-10 s.d 6-11 tahun 1996. (3) Pelatihan Nasional "Metodologi Penelitian Sosial Keagamaan" di Sekolah Pascasarjana UGM Yogyakarta selama 6 bulan (Pebruari s.d Juli 2007). (4) Pelatihan Nasional
"Metodologi Penelitian Sosial Keagamaan" tingkat lanjutan di Sekolah Pascasarjana UGM Yogyakarta. Selama 3 bulan (September s.d Desember 2008).
Sedangkan seminar yang pernah diikuti mulai tingkat local, nasional dan internasional, diantaranya : Seminar Nasional Lumpur Lapindo di ITS Surabaya ( tahun 2006). Seminar Internasional “Islamic Economy and Social Justice” kerja

IReSS bergerak di bidang Sosial, Keagamaan, Pendidikan, Advokasi/Pendampingan, serta Kajian dan Penerbitan. Penulis tercatat sebagai anggota Asosiasi Peneliti Sosial Keagamaan Indonesia ( APSKI )
