Back To Sch««l Offer

Don't miss the best deal of your life

It's

that time of year. Sales and back-to-schoolof- fers are every- where.

Maybe

you'llneedacouple pairof

new

jeans or

some new

tennis shoes.

Maybe

astron- gerbook bag.

You

can go to the mal or store and look them over, pick outtheones that suit you bestandthen buy.

FFA

is like that.

You

can

"shop"for

ways

togetinvolvedin

yourchapterandget thebestdealof theschool yearforyourself

maybe

This back-to-schoolofferisfromsuc- cessful chapter advisors

members

FFA

and

come

out on top in school, awards, fun,job preparation andcareer develop- ment. But

some members come

outempty- handed,ordon'tgettheirmoney'sworth.

Make

sure youdon'tget short-changed.

Do

likeanygood shopper-

make

alist.

Getorganizedto getinvolved.

The

first piece of advice almost all

advisorshave is to"just get inthereand

participate."

You

'11always

come

outahead

ifyouget involved.

Carroll Shry, formerpresidentofthe National Vocational Agriculture Teach- ersAssociationsays,"Participateinsome- thing. Carry boxes to the display at the mall. Hold an animal for a children's pettingzooevent.

Charles Schuster froin Westminster, Maryland, says

members who

get themost outof

FFA

feelcomfortablevolunteering.

Certainly there are

some

basics every good

member

should do

attend the meetings,pay yourduesontime,speakup

atmeetings, readthe

FFA

magazine,keep trackof

FFA

announcementsinclassand

ats hool,wearan

more

often thaniL he banquetandfair.

A

sta. ^2 place for

many members

could be he ^ing with the chapter fund raisingactivity 'oin the salesforce, lead a sales team, ch^iienge your classmates, helpkeeptherecords. ^tTertodrive or help

another member, find

some

customers in anothertownorinyour neighborhood.

Another approach wouldbetogo onthe chapterfishingor

camping

triporgowith

FFA

to state fair.

FFA camp

orleadershipconference is

another

way

to work withother

members

on a socialandcasual basis. Later inthe yearyouwillfeelcomfortable abouthelp- ing on a committee with them or on an important chapterevent.

Ifyouare a

new

member, ask an older

member

ifyoucangoalong.

Maybe

they are in the speaking contest.

You

can go and

listenandget

some

ideaof

how

thecontest works.

One

IkeWilliams, advisoratClearSprings, Maryland, suggests,"The mainthingisto figuresomething youreally like todo and seeifthechapter has an eventorprogram

FFA

is built on committees. That is

certainly the major

way

for you to get involvedinyourchapter. Seekouttheone

that has the most interest for you. All chaptersshouldhaveaprintedprogramof activities that

show

what'splannedfor the year.

Look

Anothervery popular

way

to get in- volved in

FFA

is through the judging contest system.

Don'tbeafraidtotry.Thereisno need

to have had along background in live- stockormeatsor forestry or dairy foods.

Likealotoftheothergooddealsin

FFA

you will learn plenty

like

how

to decide,and

how

One

if the best deals ofyour life is

your

membership

in

FFA.

(Notabaddeal for$3.50ayearplus

some

localandstate dues.)

The

best benefit of

FFA

is that you will"get" plenty out ofthedeal, butyour activeparticipation will

mean

you"give"

a great deal to the organization and to yourfellowmembers. That's agooddeal
