that rainforests as their home are still in good condition and able to provide life for all creatures in the world. Raja Ampat is one of mesmerizing destination in Papua and my siblings take me there as a birthday gift.
We visit Sawinggrai village. They say the underwater world will give us view of euphoria that makes me and my sisters go diving. Mr Dio is our guide. He gives us diving equipments and guidance. He accompanies us underwater and shows the directions to see the beautiful creatures. I see many kinds of fish and coral reefs. There are clown fish among others. I think I finally can meet these Nemos and greet them. My sister records me with her camera. She says that Dory finds Marlin’s son, what a joke. I am back to the surface with towel wraps around my body. My sister comes to me. She tells me that there is a a good place to look for Cenderawasih. Okay then, let’s go there.
Just about to take a step, a group of children comes to us, jogging. My sister’s ready with her camera, filming me who currently is talking with them. They ask me if I’m here to see birds of paradise and of course yes. They tell me that there is a story about Cenderawasih. That is how it goes:
new place, new story. The legend tells the story of a mother and her child who initially lived happily. The son then met a man who helped him cut down the forest and later became his mother's husband. Their family was blessed with two children, but these two children always felt jealous of their older brother to the point of daring to hurt him. The older brother then tied a twisted rope to his leg and jumped from one ridge of the house to another until he became a bird of paradise. This action was finally followed by his mother who eventually became a female bird of paradise. The other two children then felt sorry and threw each other until they turned into ordinary birds. As for the father in the end became the ruler of the Katdundur Sea. That is how the story ends. Eventually, we have to
continue our journey.
For 30 minutes we have to climb up Manjai hill behind Sawinggrai village to reach the place where there are birds of paradise. Now we are with mr Kaimin as our guide. I see two sooty tern birds. They look like penguins, white and black, and I think they are cute. My sisters agree to it. But they wonder what the sooty tern birds are doing here. Mr Kaimin explains that the bird come here to breed.
Suddenly my sister jumps. The chirpings of Cenderawasih surprise her. It is great to hear them chirping. It gives us sign that we are almost there. We need to wait 15 minutes more to see them since they only appear around 4 to 5 pm in the afternoon. As I expect, I cannot stop saying ‘Wow!’
ever since the birds of paradise appear flying above us.
‘Click!’ I don’t want to waste the opportunity to capture them in pictures. All I can do is smiling and laughing watching my favorite creature flying above me which I have been looking forward to it.
