Current digital libraries research focus more on access to, and retrieval of, digital information.

There are two more important components where lot of thrust is given towards different stakeholder’s perspective such as information literacy, and social networking, social community development using open source software.

CONCLUSION

Today there is tremendous change in services earlier we use to make users to visit libraries or centers frequently but through the advantages of ICT we are taking libraries to their desk tops, this is what today user’s demands is. The challenge exists before today’s reference librarian is to use the web to deliver appropriate service at the right time in the right format, particularly in support of the library’s extensive service.

Building on our own experiences and relations hope we can better understand and anticipate the users and enhance the services and products which best suited with their requirements and needs. By enhancing skills, knowledge and working practices on software’s and building the customer relation- ships we will sure move our reference desk to their desktops.

As libraries adjust to an increasingly digital environment and a clientele that is more widely distributed and not confined to the physical library building itself, they need to assess more traditional library services to determine those which can and should be transmigrated meaningfully into the new environment. Allowing for clients to ask questions of a knowledgeable human being with the expec- tation that the questions will either be answered directly or that information will be provided to guide the clients’ own searches is a respected traditional service within librarianship; its useful- ness and value to clients is reflected in the number

and range of libraries providing this service. This type of service provides an important safety net for clients who often face daunting problems in tasks associated with using information systems, such as framing queries, devising adequate search strategies, and evaluating the desired information.

The libraries that have implemented variations of DRS need to continue to look at its implementa- tion within their institutions to insure that they are marrying the old values and benefits with the evolving capabilities of the new environment.

Reference librarians need to shift their focus from providing technical assistance on using li- brary resources to user education, thus assisting students in developing information literacy skills to identify when information is needed, and to locate, evaluate and use the needed information effectively. Today through many Learning man- agement software’s we can instruct our users by integrating those software e.g. web tutorials, face to face class instructions, chats in our libraries resources.
