eyes the facial suture diverges slightly.Eyes
of moderate size, situ- ated rather far forward, so that their anteriorendsareabout opposite the front of theglabella.They
are onlyslightly bowed, but the palpe- bral lobes lie entirely outside themargin
of the fixigeneand
are set at an angle slightly greater than the course of lateral dorsal furrow.Heavy
but low eye ridges are developed.Viewed from
the front the cranidium is evenly convex, with glabellaand
fixigenes forming one curved slope. Longitudinallytheconvexityis greaterbutis alsoeven, except for the slight flattening of thebrim toward
a horizontal posi- tion.The
associated libragene has a large occular platform, a raised thickened rim,and
a slender genal spine.Honey Creek

Livingston, contain a species of Tacnicephalus, often occur- ring inabundance.Most
of therock is a chowder, buthereand
there cranidiaand
other parts escaped being broken beforeentombment.
This species is characterized
by normal
features throughout.The
glabella tapers at a
normal
rate.On
the outsidetwo
pairs of shallow furrowsmay
be traced, but on exfoliated examples three pairs are clearly visible.Where
the test remains, the dorsalfurrow
is rather deep but narrow,and
the occipitalfurrow
is prominent both across the glabellaand
on the large posterolateral limbs.The
fixigenes are half the glabellar width at the anterior end of the eyes.Brim
width equals half the glabellar length. Preglabellar area rather wideand
stronglyconvex.Rim expanded
forwardinmiddle,giving the anterior outlinean angulatedappearance.Eyes
ofmoderate
sizeand
innormal
position.
The pygidium
is ofnormal
sizeand
oval shape.The
almostcom-
pletely exfoliated
example
figured has deeper furrowsand
greater relief than the exteriorwould
show.The
wide axis extends nearly the full length of the tail.Although
the outside of test seems to be smooth, the preglabellar areaand
other elevated portions of exfoliated specimens exhibit100

The
glabellawhich
tapers to arounded
front, has three pairs of fairly deeply impressed furrows.The brim
width exceedsmore
than half the glabellar length.At
the center thebrim
is divided about equally between rimand
preglabellar area, both ofwhich
have about thesame
convexity.At
the eyethe fixigenes are almost exactlyequal to half the glabellar width.The
small eyes are situated about the midpoint of the cranidium.They
are very stronglybowed
ina longi- tudinaldirection,which, togetherwiththe distinctness of the palpebral lobe,projectsthe eyes considerablyabove theremainderof the cranid- ium. In cross section the glabella is moderately,and
the fixigenes greatly, curved.Although
individual parts have high relief the longi- tudinal curvature is not greatand
is rather evenly distributed.The
pygidium, typical in sizeand
shape, has considerable convexity.The
specificname
isgiven in recognition of the geologicwork done by
the collector, Dr.W. H. Holmes.

This rather large species
found
in the northeastern part of the Yellowstone NationalPark
differsfrom
T. holmesi in that allfurrows are shallower,
and
thebrim
is wider. Also, theglabellaand
fixigenes are less highly arched in both directions.The
surface issmooth.

Severalcranidia,a libragene,
and
several smallpygidia are contained in the collectionfrom
this locality.Only
the larger of the specimens have been figured.The
species is characterizedby normal
shapeand
development of the several parts, with the possible exception of a flattening in the preglabellar area.The
glabella tapers at anormal
rate.
On
the outer surface its anterior outline is straighter thanon
exfoliated specimens, a conditionduetowideningof the dorsalfurrow
in the latterinstance.
Two
pairs of furrowsshow
on the outsideand
threeon
theinside of thetest.The
deepoccipitalfurrow
is irregular.The
neckringhasa smallspine. Fixigenesareabouthalftheglabellar length exclusive of the occipital ring.Rim
slightly elevatedand
thickened,expanding forward somewhat
in the middlewhere
it isonly slightly less
wide
than the preglabellar area.Eyes
arenormal
size
and
moderately bowed. In cross section the curvature is not greatinthe central portion of thecranidium. In spiteof thedepressed anteriorangles the frontmargin
isnearlystraight buthasconsiderable relief becauseof the greatlydepressed posterolaterallimbs. Libragenenormal
in sizeand
shape,with a ratherwide and
possibly short genal spine.The
associatedpygidium
isnormal
