Danny : No, Sir. I guess it is because I don't completely understand the lesson.
Mr. Paul Why didn't you tell me? May I help you review the lesson again?
Mr.Paul : No. Thank you for the offer, Sir. I guess I can learn something from my mistakes. Besides, Hana is coming over to my house to help me out.
Mr.Paul : Alright, then. Would you like to have another copy of the lessons review?
Yes, please. That will be very helpful. Thank you, Sir.
Mr.Paul : Anytime, Danny.
Right Conduct and Love Values
From the conversation above, it can be seen that Mr.Paul is care to Danny. He asks the reasons why Danny has to join the make-up test. Here, Mr.Paul offers Danny a help to review the lesson again. He also offers a help to have another copy of lesson review. These helpful hands are part of right conduct value, and care is part of love value.
Chapter 2 (Technology)
41 Less appropriate of humanistic values
In this paragraph, the scientist’s wife is described as impatient woman which doesn’t include in value of peace and she even doesn’t respect her husband that doesn’t like pet until the fight is occurred and she left her husband just because of the pet. In social context, the wife shouldn’t be that selfish and stubborn.
Here, the scientist was left by his wife because of the dog. This scene is seemed to be unhuman in our daily life.
In contrary, in this paragraph also shown that human possess a value of love to the dog like care, compassion and friendship.
I was lying in the sofa in my home one day when I was disturbed by continuous barking of my neighbour’s dog. That dog was a nuisance, barking in long spells, especially when I had work. I asked my neighbour, Mr.Brown if he could somehow silence the dog. He casually said that it only barked sometimes. However, the mongrel barked, on and off, from dawn to dusk. I wanted to teach my neighbour a lesson. I recorded the barking and played it back to him. You know what happened?
Less appropriate of humanistic values
The scientist here is described as impatient person who is disturbed by the barking of dog which is part of animal natures.
Anyway, Mr. Brown is also not care about others, so he doesn’t have a non-violence value, until the scientist do the recording the barking and playing it back to his neighbour. It is considered as revenging which is a bad attitude in our daily life. In social context, it will disturb the relationship between two people.
The next day, a policeman came and told me I was causing a nuisance to my neighbours. "It harassing them," he said. I was angry. In return, I asked him about Mr. Brown's dog's barking, but said, "a dog is
42
a dog, but this, recording it on your tape is legally a nuisance."
That made me think, why is a dog that special?
Because it is a live so it can do anything? makes a dog anyway? Then, I got an idea. I created a robot dog in six months. It looked so real. did everything that a dog did; moving, barking, chasing postmen, and even letting out droppings! policeman came again to me and said "This is clearly a harassment.
You built it to annoy your neighbor at 2 a.m. every night, and you are standing there smiling?? I was indeed smiling innocently.
Truth Value
The scientist here has a high optimism, fearlessness and discernment to defend himself, which are considered as truth value.
The next day, I went to a lawyer, Mr. Pildickens. He said, "Look, Jeff, you are going to lose this case. The plain fact is that people love dogs because dogs love people. Your machine dog has no I asked him how a real dog is allowed to bark at me all night, and no law can protect me ragging. Mr. Pildickens said, "Love sentiment. People love dogs, and dogs love them back. That's it.”
I did not want to give in. Science was magical. I bought a bunch of the latest plug and inserted Artificial Intelligence chips that synthesized emotions like love, hate, and loyalty and plugged them together. So, the "Golgo Molgo" robot dog had real feelings including a killing rage. However, I went too far. Golgo, in one of its fits of anger, killed my neighbor, Mr. Brown’s baby son in front of a dozen witnesses!!
43 Less appropriate of humanistic values
In this paragraph, it is clearly shown that the scientist has a high ambition to create a dog that has real feelings, meanwhile we know that God’s creature is incomparable. It absolutely violates the social context. As human, we need to realize that but anyway, the scientist only intends to maintain his right to have a peace life without disturbed by any commotions such as dog barking. Thus, tolerance and harmony are not applied in this condition. The scientist intention is to kill people with creating the dog robot. It’s out of social context. Moreover, the dog robot that he made is failed because it is able to kill human. It finally doesn’t include humanistic values at all.
There, of course, was a big court case again. I was facing murder charges this time. The lawyer said I had created a murder weapon to kill people I did not like. However, I said in my defence that I simply built a dog. My Golgo was just another dog. I only built a dog-not a killer machine. "Sometimes," said Mr.
Pildickens, "dogs kill people. That is unfortunate, but it is simply the nature of the beast." Then, an expert witness stepped forward to say, "Yes, this is so." The jury was shown a film of dogs attacking cattle and autopsy reports on children killed by dogs. I even brought a small group of people to show their scars of dog bites to the jury.
My lawyer was winning. "The facts are simple," said Mr. Pildickens, summing up for the benefit of the jury, "The bond between a dog and it's master is a bond of emotion, a bond of love. Out of love, a dog will defend its master's territory, fighting to death when needed."
