of 1902-3,Dr. William Lord Smith,
ofBoston, -hunted
insouthwestern peninsular Korea, and
later,with
other spoils of the trip,presented
to theUnited
StatesNational Museum
the skin ofan undescribed musk-deer.
Doctor Smith
writes of his trip:* 'I startedfrom Mok-po
(lat.
35° ) and went down
the coast, partlyby boat and
partlyon
foot, to theend
of the peninsula.The specimens
inquestion were
collectedduring November and December,
1902,and Jan-
uary, 1903. Iwas never
farfrom
thewestern
coast lineand was
really tigershooting,bagging two
tigers myself,my hunter
getting
one."
Korea appears not
tohave been included
in therange
of themusk-deer
asgiven
in recentworks, though
theanimal was recorded from
there as farback
as1867 by Pere David.

hips. Sides dark blackish brown; underpartsmixed brown and
