191A NEW TRIGONALID FROM INDIA (HYM).
BY
T. D. A. COCKERELL.Some time ago Mr. Ramakrishna Ayyar
sentme from India an
insectwhich
Itook
atfirstsight tobe
abee
ofthegenus Xomada.
Closer
inspectionshowed that
theresemblance was wholly
super-ficial,
and
Ihad
beforeme
amember
of the Trigonalidae. Iwas not then
able todo more than
ascertainthat
itwas
at leastclosely allied to Poecilogonalos thwaitesii(Westwood),
describedfrom Ceylon. Coming
toWashington, with
the assistance ofMr.
S.
A. Rohwer and some
additional literature, Ihave been
able to separate itfrom
allknown
forms,and
it isaccordingly
de- scribed.Poecilogonalos
mimus, new
species.Female. -Length about 9
mm.;
anteriorwing 7.5mm.;
similar in general characterand appearancetoP.thwaitesii, but groundcolor ofheadandthorax mainly black, clypeus only very shallowly and broadly subemarginate, no medianfrontal spot, scutellum yellow withamedianferruginousband
(axillae red), and second abdominal segment with the yellow confined to the broad apical band. The
insectactuallyfalls nearertoP.formosana Bischofffrom Formosa, apparently agreeinginthe rather coarse sculptureof the headand thorax, and in the clypeus beingwithout a triangular emargination, as well as in the lack of the basal yellow spot on second abdominal segment. It differs, however, in the colorationofthe scutellum, and inthedarkcloudon the wings being confined to the apical half of the marginal cell (extending on the lower part as far as middle of third submarginal) and a broad aiea belowthe marginal beyond thethird submarginal. The
secondsubmarginalcell is considerably longer than in Westwood's figure of P. thwaitesii, and the firstrecurrent nervure meets the first transversocubital, a trifle toward the outerside.

a reddish band; an-teriorand posterior orbits with broad yellow bands, the anterior one ending abruptly (broadly truncate) atabout the beginning of the upper two-fifths of orbit; a pair ofsubtriangularyellow spotslow
