Upper
surface grayish brown,becoming rufescent posteriorly,andspotted with darkerbrown
and buffy;rump
and upper tailcoverts chestnut; wings fuscous irregularlybarredand marginedexternallywith light chestnut; tail pale chestnut, with narrow black bars; ill-defined superciliary stripe dull whitish; cheeks, lower part of auriculars, throat, and jugulum while;abdomen
chestnut, sparingly dotted with darkerbrown.Specimens from New Mexico,
Arizona,and Lower
California are,as arule,somewhat
darker than thosefrom
Texas,and though
evidently vergingmore
or lesstoward
pimdulattis, apparentlybelong
here.Variation,both seasonal

individual, is greatinboth
