Thesis titled "Effectiveness of Blended Learning Model Based on WhatsApp Messenger Application to Improve Students' English Vocabulary". Thus, we can conclude that using a blended learning model based on the WhatsApp Messenger application is effective in increasing students' English vocabulary.

Identification of Problem

Then, based on the results of another study by Yuni Rolita Utami, it was stated that students who wrote descriptive texts using WhatsApp in blended learning were more effective than not using them.3. The results of research by Hendri Purbo Waseso and Salis Irvan Fuadi show that Blended Learning-Based Learning using WhatsApp Media can make their students more willing to accept learning, control different learning experiences that arise and can develop insight and the material for each other.4 Therefore, the researcher conducted a study on the theme The effectiveness of the Blended Learning model based on the WhatsApp application to improve students' English vocabulary.

Vocabulary

According to Kamil and Heibert, vocabulary is generally defined as the meaning of words or knowledge. This vocabulary is not often found in conversation, but is important for understanding academic topics.

Framework of Thinking

Things around us: in the classroom: (table, chair, book, etc.); in the living room: (sofa, television, curtain, etc.) in the kitchen: (oven, plate, glass, etc.) body: (head, feet, hand, etc.) conditions in the family: (mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, etc.) . Blended learning model based on the WhatsApp application is a technological sophistication that can be used in the field of education, with this learning model, teachers and students can learn online through the WhatsApp application and can also do face-to-face/offline learning both in class or in certain locations, that can support the learning process. Using this learning model, teachers and students can learn anywhere and anytime according to the schedule set by the teacher.

Thus, the effectiveness of the learning model can be used for any type of learning, including improving students' English vocabulary. For this reason, an effective learning model such as blended learning-based WhatsApp is needed to help students learn optimally under the guidance of a teacher.

Hypothesis

Classroom action research is the existence of certain treatments for performance improvement in the real world. The implementation of the action is a process of realizing classroom learning as a theory and teaching and learning strategy applied and referring to the applicable curriculum. In this phase, the researcher observes the results or impact of the actions taken on students in the learning process, students' understanding of the material being taught and observes the effectiveness of applying the WhatsApp-based blended learning model to find out if there are any changes that occur when implementing ongoing actions.

At this stage, the researcher records the results of the observations, then examines, reviews and considers the results of the actions taken based on the observation form completed by the observer to plan further actions. In this observation activity, each cycle is subjected to the same treatment (same flow of activities). At the end of each cycle, it ends with a formative test with the aim of knowing students' learning outcomes and the effectiveness of the application of WhatsApp. based blended learning model.

Research Procedure

The researcher explained to the students about the blended learning model based on the WhatsApp application. During the learning process, the researcher observed the students' activities through the checklist observation sheet. After the researcher had reflected on the first cycle, but had shown no increase in the results of the checklist observations and the results of the student's vocabulary test, the researchers would continue the research into the next phase, namely cycle II as a form of improvement from the previous cycle or cycle I.

The implementation of measures in the second cycle is a corrective action taken on the basis of the first cycle. The researcher again analyzed and drew conclusions about the implementation of learning in II.

Data Collection and Processing Techniques

This is done to see if the learning performed using certain actions can enhance or improve the studied problems in the learning process. If there is an increase in the student's English vocabulary or other words in this cycle, the success indicator is achieved, the study is completed or terminated. Other activities observed included teacher activities during the learning process using the blended learning model based on WhatsApp, as well as student activities during the learning process using the blended learning model based on WhatsApp.

Documentation, which looks for data about things or variables in the form of transcription notes, books, newspapers, magazines, agendas and so on.32 In this study, the documentation technique was used to obtain data about English learning outcomes. Observations of student activities during the learning process, the objects observed are students, student activities, interest in learning and student learning outcomes.

Research Instrument

The researcher used observation checklist to collect data about the students' activity in the teaching learning process to find out the data about blended learning model based on WhatsApp application to improve students' English vocabulary.33.

After getting information about the students' condition, the researcher used a blended learning model based on the WhatsApp Messenger application as an alternative that could help students improve their English vocabulary. Based on the results of the offline and online learning checklist observations made above by the researcher for 3 meetings in the first cycle, the mean value in the first meeting was 51.87, then in the second meeting, it showed a slight increase with the value of 57.75, until the third meeting in the first cycle. So, the average value obtained from the results of the first cycle of learning is 57.05, which means that the students have not reached the full value at this stage and this cycle has not been successful, because that researcher will continue the research in cycle or the next cycle. 2.

Based on the results of this data, it can be seen that none of the students got very good or excellent results in the 1st cycle. Based on the observation results of the offline and online learning checklist in the 2nd cycle showed an increase compared to the previous cycle, with the details of the results for the 3 offline learning sessions, namely and 82.89, then we add up to get the final grade with an average of 78.43.

Discussion

Based on the observations, the researcher therefore chose a blended learning model based on the WhatsApp Messenger application to increase the students' English vocabulary. After learning was completed, the researcher asked the students to be active in their respective WA at the time agreed upon by the researcher and the students. For this reason, the researcher chose to continue the research in the second cycle as a form of improvement from cycle one.

Perkenalan dengan salam, menanyakan kabar, doa memulai pembelajaran, mengecek kehadiran siswa. Guru mendorong topik yang sedang dibahas dengan menyebutkan nama beberapa benda yang ada di ruang tamu. Siswa dibagi berpasangan untuk berdiskusi dan mengerjakan latihan yang diberikan guru.
