Thesis Title: The relationship between students' interest in listening to English pop song and vocabulary mastery SMK Budi Bangsa Pinrang. Based on the above explanation, the researcher intended to conduct a research titled “Correlation between students' interest in listening to English pop songs and vocabulary mastery in the tenth grade of SMK BUDI BANGSA PINRANG”. What is the students' interest in listening English pop song in the tenth grade of SMK BUDI BANGSA Pinrang. Is there any positive significant correlation between students' interest in listening English pop song and vocabulary mastery in tenth grade of SMK BUDI BANGSA Pinrang.

Objective of the Research

Based on the result of SPSS, the description of the data presented in this section includes variable data on students' interest in listening to English pop song (X) and students' vocabulary mastery (Y). The total score of students' interest in listening to English pop song variables obtained from the research results was 2679, the highest theoretical score of this variable for each respondent was 19 X 4 = . The number 19 was taken from the number of statement items that had been tested for validity or statements given to the respondent, while the number 4 was taken from the number of alternative answers in the statement or questionnaire distributed to the respondents. In this part, the researcher explained the discussion about the relationship between students' interest in listening to English pop song and vocabulary mastery in tenth grade of SMK Budi Bangsa Pinrang.

PREVIOUS AND RELATED LITERATURE

Previous Related Research Finding

The title is Improving Students' Vocabulary Comprehension Through Listening to English Song of Eight-Year-Old Students of SMPN 25 Semarang She was using listening to English song to improve students' vocabulary comprehension. For the experimental class, she used listening to the English song for the students and the other class did not use the game. There is a significant difference in the vocabulary test score achieved by the students after they have thought while listening to the English song.

The aim of the study was to investigate the correlation between students' interest in listening to English songs and their vocabulary mastery. The population in this study was all the eleventh year students at MAN Treanggalek;.

The result showed that there is a high correlation between students' interest in listening to English songs and their vocabulary mastery. 23Prames Ayuningtyas, Unpublished Dissertation entitled “Improving Vocabulary Mastery by Listening to Songs for Student of SMKN 2 Depok Sleman Yogyakarta” (Yogyakarta: . Universitas Sanata Dharma, 2008). The first describes how to improve vocabulary mastery by listening to English songs, the second study describes the effect of English songs on students' vocabulary acquisition, while the third study describes the correlation between students' interest in listening to English songs and their vocabulary mastery. .

In addition, although the third previous study described the same topic, which was correlation, but both were different in their research subject and time setting.

Conceptual Framework

Although previous studies have addressed the same topic as this study, there are differences between them. A conceptual framework is an overview of relationship patterns between variables in a coherent whole that describes the focus of the research.25 These frameworks are intended as a basis for systematic thinking and reduce the problem addressed by the research.

Hypothesis

Ho: There was no significant effect of correlation between students' interest in listening to English pop song and vocabulary mastery in tenth grade of SMK Budi Bangsa Pinrang.

Variable and Operational Definition

Vocabulary mastery is the ability of learners to memorize collections of vocabulary so that they are able to combine the vocabulary into a complete sentence that is used as a means of communication. Vocabulary also has important rules in understanding language, where vocabulary is not only the smallest linguistic unit, but must be with a grammatical rule to be correct.

METHODOLOGY OF THE RESEARCH

Population and Sample

The researcher will use the questionnaire to get data about students' interest in listening to English pop songs. Indicators are based on WS Winkle, a few aspects to be learned about students' interest in listening to English pop song. The result showed that the coefficient validity of students' interest in listening to English song and vocabulary mastery were valid.

The result showed that the variable score of students' interest in listening to English pop songs is from 37 to 70. The frequency distribution of students' interest in listening to English pop songs can be seen in the following table. The determination of the category and score of students' interest in listening to English pop songs of students can be considered in the guideline table to ensure the interpretation of the following correlation coefficient.

So the level of students' interest in listening English pop song is or 76.6% of the criteria set, so the level of students' interest in listening English song is in the high category. It means that students' interest in listening English pop song and vocabulary mastery in tenth grade in SMK Budi Bangsa Pinrang. 0.854, this indicates that the variable students' interest in listening English pop song 85.4% and clear of other factors outside of this study.

When testing the validity and reality of the instrument questionnaire on students' interest in listening to English pop songs, there were initially twenty statements. Based on data analysis tests, the test showed that students' interest in listening to English pop songs was 0.766 0r 76.6% of the specified criteria. The calculation results show that the percentage of students' interest in listening to English pop songs is 76.6% of the established criteria and is included in the high category because it is in the value interval coefficient.

Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that students' interest in listening English pop songs contributes positively to students' vocabulary mastery. There is a significant relationship between students' interest in listening to English pop song and vocabulary mastery in tenth grade at SMK Budi Bangsa Pinrang. This shows that students' interest in listening to English pop song contributed 85.4% to students' vocabulary.
