The study entitled “Code switching used by Travel Vlogger “Arief Muhammad”
in Travel Videos” aims to investigate the types, the function of code switching and the viewers’ attitude toward the use of code switching. This research use questionnaire with open-ended questions. Some main theories were used to analyze the data, namely Poplack’s theory (1980) to analyze the types of code switching, Holmes’s (2004) theory to analyze the function of code switching and Garret’s theory (2010) to investigate the viewers’ attitude toward code switching used by Arief Muhammad. The result of this analysis shows that all the types of code switching were found in Arief Muhamamad utterances namely, Intra- sentential switching, Tag-switching, and Inter-sentential switching. On the other hand, the result of this analysis shows that only two function which are found in Arief Muhamamad utterances, namely affective function and topic switch. In Affective function this research found 3 purposes which are covering difficulties in speaking in certain language, increasing prestige to be viewed as an educated person and expressing disapproval and anger. In addition, the result also reveals that the viewers’ mostly show positive attitude toward code switching used by Arief Muhammad.
