ABSTRACT
Ermiwati, 2019. This thesis is about Improving the Students’ Speaking Skill by Using Social Interaction Model (A Pre-Experimental Research at Eighth Grade Students’ of MTs. Yapit Tonrorita). English Department, the Faculty of Teachers Training and Education, Makassar Muhammadiyah University, supervised by Erwin Akib and Herlina Daddi.
The objective of this research was to find out the significant of the students‟ achievement in pronunciation, vocabulary and smoothness through Social Interaction Model at the eighth grade of MTs. Yapit Tonrorita. This research employed pre-experimental research design. There were two variables, namely dependent variable was the students‟ achievement in speaking and independent variable was the application of Social Interaction Model.
The population was the students at the eighth grade of MTs. Yapit Tonrorita. The sample was consisted of 36 students which were taken by using random sampling, 18 students were taken as experimental class. The instrument was speaking test consisted of 5 items questions.
The result of the data indicated that there was a significant difference between students‟ pre-test and post-test. The mean score of students on pre-test in pronunciation and vocabulary was 2.50 and 2.41, This were categorized as very poor and after post-test was 4.72 and 4.44 become poor. The mean score on pre- test in smoothness was 2, This was categorized as very poor and after post-test were 3.89 become poor. The final result from the research shows that t-test value for the final score of students‟ speaking skill 6.1>t-table=1.740, it is said that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1)is accepted.

Ermiwati, 2019. Tesis ini adalah tentang Meningkatkan Keterampilan Berbicara Siswa dengan Menggunakan Model Interaksi Sosial (Penelitian Pra-Eksperimental di Siswa Kelas VIII MTs. Yapit Tonrorita). Jurusan Bahasa Inggris, Pelatihan dan Pendidikan Fakultas Keguruan, Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, diawasi oleh Erwin Akib dan Herlina Daddi.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui signifikansi prestasi siswa dalam pengucapan, kosa kata dan kelancaran melalui Model Interaksi Sosial di kelas delapan MTs. Yapit Tonrorita. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian pra-eksperimental. Ada dua variabel, yaitu variabel dependen adalah prestasi siswa dalam berbicara dan variabel independen adalah penerapan Model Interaksi Sosial.
Populasi adalah siswa di kelas delapan MTs. Yapit Tonrorita. Sampel terdiri dari 36 siswa yang diambil dengan menggunakan random sampling, 18 siswa diambil sebagai kelas eksperimen. Instrumen tes berbicara terdiri dari 5 item pertanyaan.
Hasil data menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara pre- test dan post-test siswa. Nilai rata-rata siswa pada pre-test dalam pengucapan dan kosa kata adalah 2.50 dan 2.41, ini dikategorikan sangat buruk dan setelah post- test adalah 4.72 dan 4.44 menjadi buruk. Nilai rata-rata pada pre-test dalam kelancaran adalah 2, ini dikategorikan sangat buruk dan setelah post-test adalah 3.89 menjadi buruk. Hasil akhir dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai t-tes untuk skor akhir keterampilan berbicara siswa 6.1> t-tabel = 1.740, dikatakan bahwa hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (H1) diterima .
