Alfred University and Alfred State College are offering a seminar called "How to have a party without getting arrested" this Friday, April 13, from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Carnegie Conference Room (Main Street across from Hair Care and Main Street Video).

The seminar is geared toward off-campus students but property owners are welcome to participate.

Presenters Norm Pollard (Dean of Students at AU) and Steve Tyrell (VP Student Affairs at Alfred State College) will review some of the current NYS laws governing hosting an event and will teach students how to make smart choices about potentially high-risk situations. Students will learn how to host a party without ending up with fines, tickets, or ambulance transports for their guests.

Reminder to supervisors

Supervisors must notify Human Resources immediately when any of their staff is absent from work due to their own or a family member's health condition for five consecutive days, or when an on-going, intermittent absence is requested. This ensures that HR is able to notify the employee of their Family and Medical Leave Act rights, as well as ensure compliance with AU policies. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Summer employment process

Please notify HR of the summer positions available in your department; an e-mail listing is fine.

HR will post all open summer jobs electronically and in Greene Hall. When you are ready to review applications please contact HR. Once you have interviewed and made your selection, complete the Student/Summer Payroll Authorization form (link below) and return to HR.

Whenever possible, supervisors are encouraged to give priority to Alfred University students, as well as children of AU staff. AU employees may not supervise their own immediate family members.

(5)

Any summer employees who have not worked for the University previously, MUST report to Human Resources to complete necessary paperwork BEFORE beginning employment.

Summer wage will be $7.15/hour. Each department must stay within budget allocations, which your signature on the hiring form certifies that you have funding available. Please remember that the FOAP to be used is not a student number; summer hires are temporary employees.

Laws covering employees under 18 years of age restrict work assignments and hours, and require that such employees have a valid work permit for employment eligibility. Human Resources must be contacted before workers in this age group are hired.

Interested in Macs, but need Windows applications?

Well, now you can have both! If you are scheduled for a returning Gateway machine this summer and are interesting in switching to a Mac, then ITS can provide a solution.

For a one-time charge of $58 to cover the Windows XP license, we can offer you a dual-booting Mac.

This means that if you need a program that runs only in Windows most of the day, you can restart your computer and boot into Windows. This gives you full capability of a Windows machine while allowing you the freedom to learn the Mac platform.

Contact Mike Stone at [email protected] for more details.
