Seminar for landlords and tenants
Alfred University and Alfred State College are offering a seminar called "How to have a party without
getting arrested" this Friday, April 13, from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Carnegie Conference Room (Main Street across from Hair Care and Main Street Video).
The seminar is geared toward off-campus students but property owners are welcome to participate.
Presenters Norm Pollard (Dean of Students at AU) and Steve Tyrell (VP Student Affairs at Alfred State College) will review some of the current NYS laws governing hosting an event and will teach students how to make smart choices about potentially high-risk situations. Students will learn how to host a party without ending up with fines, tickets, or ambulance transports for their guests.

Mock interviews for educators
The Career Development Center is offering mock interview appointments for students interested in education, school counseling, and/or school psychologist opportunities.
Mock Interview Dates: Tuesday, April 17 and Wednesday, April 18, 2007 Time: Appointments are available with start times from 1- 4:45 p.m.
Length of Appointment: Approximately 45 minutes Location: At the Career Development Center
This is your opportunity to practice your interviewing skills with area public school administrators prior to any potential interviews and/or summer employment opportunities.
We have administrators from the following areas of public education participating:
* District Superintendents
* K-12 Principals
* Middle School Principal
* High School Principal
* Directors of Curriculum How to sign up:
Appointments are being scheduled by calling the Career Development Center at 607.871.2164. You are welcome to ask for a specific area of certification in relationship to your needs. Appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis with limited space available. Do not wait to sign up as we anticipate heavy participation for these mock interviews.

Friday's Geology seminar will be present by Dr. Jon Kim of the Vermont State Geological Survey. Dr.
Kim will be speaking on "Nitrate Contamination of a Bedrock Aquifer in Central Vermont". The seminar will be held from 12:20-1:10 in room 228 of the Science Center. Everyone is welcome and

Roommate Connection
Reminder: Housing sign-ups are next week (4/18-19 - Susan Howell Hall). If you are lacking a roommate or one or more people to fill your suite or apartment, come to the Roommate Connection program, Sunday, 4/15 at 8 p.m. in the Openhym Lounge. This program is sponsored by the Office of Residence Life.
Staff will be there to assist in making those connections. Remember -- you must fill your suite (6) or apartment (4 or 6) to be eligible to live there. Also you will want to have a back-up plan should your first choice not work out.

Summer 2007 marketing intern, on-campus interviews
Alfred University's Division of Enrollment Management will be conducting interviews on Friday, April 27, 2007 for a credit-bearing summer 2007 Marketing Intern.
Enrollment Management will prescreen resumes. Resume deadline is midnight, Monday, April 16, 2007.
Students with a minimum of sophomore standing in Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, MBA, and/or Sociology are preferred.

Do you like learning by doing? Do you like technology and how it helps each of us in our daily lives?
Do you like working with enthusiastic, intelligent people and helping others? If you do, there could be a place for you in Students for Technical Assistance, or STA!
We are a student-run organization that works from within Alfred's ITS department in several areas of computing:
* Public Computer Lab Consultants, helping maintain and oversee public computer labs across campus
* The ITS Helpdesk, helping faculty, staff and students with various computer-related issues
* Tier 2 Technicians, using creative methods to solve advanced computer issues such as viruses and spyware
* The Web Team, developing the databases and interfaces used by people on the AU Web pages
* Equipment Lending, providing faculty, staff and students with the computers, projectors and other education-based technology
You don't need to be a technical genius to become an STA, just someone who is dependable and enthusiastic about learning about computers and helping people. And did I mention that you get paid!?

Davie Kaplan will be hosting an open house at its First Federal Plaza, Rochester, NY location on Wednesday, April 25, 2007, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Consider taking summer courses at AU!
Summer School in warm, sunny Alfred is a great opportunity to concentrate on one course without the burden of a heavy course load. You can complete a full semester course in as little as two or three weeks, take a full-year of the language requirement, get a head start on the fall semester, or make up a course you failed during the fall or spring.
Summer School registration has begun and will continue through mid-May for Summer Session I and late June for Summer Session II. For the most up-to-date summer course information please access the Summer 2007 schedule in Banner.
An updated full-color version of the Summer School '07 Schedule Booklet is attached. Copies of the printed booklet (with green and white cover) are available at the Student Service Center, the Mail Room and the Office of Summer Programs in Carnegie.
