Alfred University earns award for student outreach initiative 12/05/17

ALFRED, NY Alfred University has been honored for establishing a program aimed at helping students identify and overcome barriers to success.
Campus Labs recently presented Alfred University its Trailblazer Award, which recognizes innovative approaches to solving problems. The University was cited for a program, developed by Tricia Debertolis, associate dean of students, which provides targeted outreach for first- and second-year students.
Alfred University&s award was in the area of student retention and success. The data-driven program developed by Debertolis, which has had a 100-percent success rate, impacts retention efforts while leveraging the capabilities of the Beacon early alert system.
Beacon, a service provided by Campus Labs, is a system that monitors student behavior, alerting others professors, advisors, coaches, i.e. to potential problems. The system takes into account factors contained in the Student Strengths Inventory: academic engagement, academics-efficacy, campus engagement, educational commitment, resiliency, and social comfort.
