Internet Outage Saturday, Nov. 17

This Saturday, between 7 and 8 a.m. ITS will be performing network maintenance that will cause an Internet outage.

If you are on-campus you will be able to access your U: drive, Alfred E-mail, Banner and My/Our portals. However, all non-Alfred Internet sites will not be available.

Example: Google, YouTube, etc. If you are living off-campus you will not be able to access Alfred resources such as E-mail, Banner or your U: drive.

ITS would like to apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. Please call the Helpdesk if you have further questions at x2222.

AU Football Team to Host ECAC Bowl Championship

The Alfred University football team has been awarded a berth in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships, the ECAC announced Tuesday.

Alfred will host the University of Rochester in the Northwest Bowl Championship on Saturday, Nov. 17, at noon at Merrill Field. The game is a rematch of last year's ECAC Northwest Bowl, won by Alfred 40- 34 in overtime.

The Saxons (7-3, 4-2 Empire 8) came up short in their regular season finale at St. John Fisher on Saturday and have lost three straight games after starting the season 7-0. Rochester lost last Saturday at home to Hobart to

end its regular season with a 6-4 record (5-2 Liberty League).

Alfred will be playing in its fourth straight ECAC Bowl game, having won the previous three, all at home: 2004 over Norwich; 2005 over Maine Maritime; and 2006 over Rochester.

All Time Sheets due before Thanksgiving holiday

Due to time constraints for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, all Web entry time sheets for the pay period of 11/4/07-11/17/07 are due to your supervisor by 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17.

All Supervisors must approve by 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 19.

All other student and staff paper time sheets are due to the payroll office by noon on Monday, Nov.

Open Enrollment - All Employees Nov. 12-30

The Open Enrollment period allows employees to make changes to or enroll in benefits effective Jan. 1, 2008. Unless the employee experiences a "change of family status," this is the only time of year to change these benefits.

The following benefits you may enroll in, drop coverage, or make changes to current level of coverage:

Health Insurance Life Insurance Accident Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Plan

The VSP vision plan, Assurant dental plan, and non-statutory medical plans all have rate increases effective Jan. 1, 2008. The rate chart is attached below. The statutory rates for medical insurance have not been released, but should be soon. However, statutory employees wishing to change their

coverage may do so now.

Please remember that non-statutory employees with a two-employee rate will see a reduction of employer contribution from 80% to 75% in 2008.

The premium on your optional life insurance may increase effective Jan. 1, 2008, as the result of a change in your base salary since last January, or if you have moved into a new age bracket (changes at 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65). If you wish to change the amount of optional coverage you presently have you may do so during this Open Enrollment period.

Flexible Spending Accounts - You must enroll for the 2008 year to participate in Medical or Dependent Care Flex Spending.

If you have any questions or would like to make changes to your coverage, please contact the Human Resources Office.

New Policy - Extra Compensation Guidelines

Attached is a new policy that details the circumstances that allow extra compensation to be paid to salaried employees. The policy, a special timesheet, and instructions will be posted on the HR web site in the near future.

AU Charities Drive - Missing Information

The Payroll Office has received two 2008 charities drive forms which do not include the individuals' names or signatures. One form is for the Alfred-Alfred Station Community Chest for $52; the other is for the United Way of Southern Tier (Humane Society) for $78. If one of these forms belong to you, please stop in the Payroll Office in Greene Hall so these deserving charities will receive the donations.

House Calls

New Student Programs invites faculty, administrators, and staff to participate in "House Calls," a program that allows you to tour the first-year residence halls and meet new students!

Join us on Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 6-9 p.m., for a dinner in Susan Howell Hall to eat and learn the details behind "House Calls." After dinner, we will team up to speak with students and hand out cookies.

Superbad

Go to Superbad Friday Night at Nevins (11/16, 8 p.m.)! The first 15 students will receive a Superbad Supersafe kit; everyone else will have the opportunity to grab some condoms and Be Safer. Sponsored by SAMs (Student Athlete Mentors).

Student Musicians Perform this Sunday!

Students in private music lessons will present a recital this Sunday, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. in Howell Hall.

The concert includes singers, pianists, string and wind players. Please come and support these fine musicians. Light refresments will be served following the performance.

Walk-In Hours @ the Career Development Center

The Career Development Center will have walk-in hours from 1-4:30 p.m., Tuesdays-Thursdays, during the semester when school is in session. Stop in to see a counselor to talk about any career

concerns/issues/questions that you may have.

Hafla Tickets on Sale

Alfred's Middle Eastern Dancers will be selling tickets to their second annual Hafla this week on the second floor of Powell. Tickets are $2 if you are going to the Tastebuds dinner, and $3 if you are not.

MEDO Hafla After-Party Dance!

After you have feasted on magnificent foods and watched some fantastic dancers it is time to get your own groove on! Join the Relay For Life planning committee and Hafla dancers for this funky to formal wear get together.

Donations are accepted and will go to the American Cancer Society to support this year's Relay For Life!

'Imaginary Invalid' Now Playing

This classic farce by Moliere satirizes the medical profession and those patients and practioners who exploit it for all it is worth, whether in 17th century France or the present day.

Alternative Cinema showing 'Mutual Appreciation' Free Showing

"Mutual Appreciation" is a film about Alan, a musician who leaves a busted-up band for New York, and a new musical voyage. He tries to stay focused and fends off all manner of distractions, including the attraction to his good friend's girlfriend.

Early Life in WNY Through Diaries

The next meeting of the Baker's Bridge Historical Association of Alfred Station will be a program by Donna Miller and Franklyn Krusen on their family diaries depicting early life in nearby Greenwood, NY.
