Alfred BFA/MFA exhibition in New York City June 9-16
Alfred University's School of Art & Design will be having an exhibition of selected BFA and MFA work in New York City June 9-16, thanks to the generosity of Trustee Michele Cohen and Marty Cohen. Hours each day will be 11 am - 6 pm, except Sunday, June 13, when it is closed.
The ground-floor location, with high visibility, is located in the Gem Hotel, 300 W. 22nd St. "Profile 2010: School of Art and Design at Alfred University" will feature several dozen works by our 2010 BFA and MFA graduates,. The artists were recommended by faculty and then chosen by co-curators Mary Drach McInnes and Kevin Jacobs. The final selection will be announced after BFA Senior Shows. The curators hope that the exhibition will highlight the full range of practices within the School of Art's program, including: ceramics; expanded media; drawing; painting and photography; and sculpture.
"Profile 2010: School of Art and Design at Alfred University" will be open to the public June 9-16.
Kevin is working with the Division of Enrollment Management to plan an event for prospective students on Tuesday, June. 8.
There will be an opening reception from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 9. All NYC alumni, as well as selected guests, are being invited to the reception. Paul Neuman '77, will be catering the event.
The University and the School of Art & Design are very appreciative of all that Michele and Marty Cohen are doing to make this exhibition happen. Michele and Marty have very graciously offered to cover costs involved, which range from preparing the space for the exhibition to transportation, staffing (by Kevin and AU art students), and the reception. It is truly a generous offer, and important for increasing the visibility of Alfred University, particularly the art school, in a market that is
increasingly important to us.
The occasion will also allow us to introduce the Cohen Gallery website, where faculty, alumni and visiting artists may sell their work, to a wide audience. The gallery site is a collaborative effort, bringing together students from art and business. It, as well as the space on campus that is the physical Cohen Gallery, and the new foundation studio for the School of Art & Design, are also a result of the Cohens' generosity.
Organizing the show is a joint effort by the School of Art & Design, and the Career Development Center, where Kevin is the career advisor working with art students. Kevin is also coordinator for the Cohen Gallery.
