Alfred University softball team splits doubleheader with Elmira 4/08/04
ELMIRA, NY -- The Alfred University softball team split a doubleheader at Elmira College Thursday afternoon. The Lady Saxons (6-11, 1-3 Empire 8) took the first game, 3-2, before dropping the nightcap 6-0. In the first game, Alfred scored a run in the top of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie. Sophomore pitcher Brittany Curran (Alfred/Alfred-Almond) went the distance on the mound for AU, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four. Freshman third baseman Lauren Mastin (Springwater/Wayland-Cohocton), sophomore rightfielder Adrienne Egglinger
(Amityville/Amityville) and Curran each had a hit and an RBI for Alfred. Junior leftfielder Courtney Briganti (Canisteo/Canisteo), senior catcher Jaclyn Kreamer (South Dayton/Pine Valley) and Mastin scored runs for the Lady Saxons.In the second game, Curran again went seven innings, allowing six earned runs on nine hits while striking out two. Alfred managed five hits but stranded six runners. Sophomore first baseman Emilie Vicchio (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights), senior centerfielder Jacque Krycia (Hamburg/Mt. Mercy), Curran, Egglinger and freshman designated hitter Gretchen Weidner (Eden/Eden) each had base hits for Alfred.Alfred is in action next on Saturday, April 10, at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader against RIT at Quackenbush Field in Wellsville.
