Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peningkatan pemahaman membaca siswa dengan menggunakan cerita kartun di kelas VIII SMP N 8 METRO. Setiap siklus terdiri dari perencanaan, tindakan, observasi dan refleksi Subyek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP N 8 METRO. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa cerita kartun dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas VIII SMP N 8 METRO.

IMPROVING STUDENTS' READING COMPREHENSION BY CARTOON HISTORY at eighth grade in SMP N 8 METRO IN ACADEMICS. The primary goal of this research is to learn how to improve students' reading comprehension of comic book story at the eighth grade level in SMP N 8 METRO. The research was carried out in collaboration with an English teacher from eighth grade in SMP N 8 METRO.

Therefore, it can be concluded that the cartoon story can improve the students' reading comprehension at the eighth grades of SMP N 8 METRO. Last but not least, the researcher's deepest gratitude also goes to my lovely friends, my classmate, my friends in Eureka, everyone in STAIN Jurai Siwo Metro and SMP N 8 METRO who were directly and indirectly involved in writing this writing.

Based on the result of pre-survey data conducted in SMP N 8 METRO on February 1, 2013, from mid-semester, followed by 31 students, only 35.5% of students passed mid-semester and 64.5% of students failed with the highest mark 80 and the lowest marks 45 with the minimum mastery criteria being 70 for the English language. As a result, the students feel bored when they learn English because of the learning strategy.

Consequently, the students will tend to be more imaginative and active in understanding a text and applying physical activities when learning English. The main concern of this study is to determine the effect of the use of comics on students' reading comprehension. Based on the above problem, the researcher wants to investigate whether SMP N 8 METRO improves students' reading comprehension through comic strips.

Based on the above background, the problem arises as follows: "Can the use of cartoon story improve students' reading comprehension in SMP N 8 METRO?". Regarding the research question, this research aims to know if there is improvement in students' reading comprehension with cartoon story in SMP N 8 METRO.

Reading comprehension thus has a certain importance for children to know the meaning of the written text. Usually it is insufficient, while the ability to recognize words is not completed by reconstructing the author's meaning. Many things are difficult to understand students' learning with the use of the media, so the problem can be overcome.

In this, learning media is one of the effective support aids in the learning process. The teacher finds out the famous cartoon so that the students know what the cartoon is. This means that the students' knowledge of the structure of stories is critical for understanding.39.

Data analysis will be performed by taking the average score of the pre-test and post-test. To get the total score and increase the progress of the students of the implemented treatments, the researcher compares the mean score of the pre-test and post-test. The researcher told the students that the researcher would conduct the research in their class to know their reading skills before performing the action research in the classroom.

Based on the analysis of the problem in the classroom, the researcher and the teacher made a lesson plan.

After observing the subject's activities, the author conducted a pre-test to know how far the students' reading comprehension using cartoon story before giving treatments. This was done to know the students' result in learning reading comprehension with the help of cartoon story after giving treatment twice. The pre-test was administered individually to the students' completion. This test was essay consisting of 8 items.

The students answered the question, but the students were less apt to translate the text and the researcher justified the meaning of the text. Finally, for evaluation only, the researcher asked the students to answer 8 questions about the cartoon story essay with text and make a conclusion of the materials while the researcher administered a pre- and post-test. The researcher used an observation sheet to observe the activities of the students during the implementation of the treatment.

Based on the data, the first cycle showed that some students were noisy, lazy to translate the text, but when the researcher gave the cartoon story text "what will they do", the student's motivation improved. Students are more active to read the cartoon story text because it was easy to understand. They were chosen to make students more active in the learning process and the goal was to improve reading comprehension.

At this stage, the state of the class was effective because the researcher to ensure that the students' effectiveness before the researcher conducted research in the class. Based on data, actually the researcher recorded in the second cycle, from the first time prepared to finished, the students were enthusiastic. From the active learner table and graphs above, student scores always improve from pre-test, post test cycle 1, post test cycle 2.

Based on the data, it can be concluded that the cartoon story can entertain students a lot and increase students' motivation to read more active books. Students should improve their reading comprehension and explore their skills using other stories.

RESEARCH RESULT AND DISCUSSION

A Brief History of the School

In this cycle, the researcher used a cartoon story about which city you would like to visit. So, it can be concluded that the improvement of students' reading comprehension by the cartoon story in cycle 2 was successful. From the result of the observation in cycle 2, it can be concluded that teaching reading comprehension using cartoons had worked well.

Story can help memorize language, introduce a variety of English, and motivate the students to read more actively.56. It can be concluded that improving students' reading comprehension through comic strips in cycle 2 was a success. Based on result data, the fact that the first cycle was found, there were some students who are loud and lazy to translate the text by using what are they going to do, but when the researcher who uses which city, the students would like more visits interested in reading and the students more active in translating the text.

Then, based on result data, in fact, the researcher in the second cycle, from the first time prepared to the end, the students were excited. Based on the above discussion, it can be concluded that the use of stories can improve student motivation and reading comprehension of eighth grade students of SMP N 8 METRO.

Learning outcome data were obtained from the tests given to the students who were pre-test and post-test in cycle 1 had done individually. From the result of pre-test and post-test we know that there was an increase from the student's result score, it can be seen from the average 56.45 becomes 72.66. Based on the analysis carried out by the teacher, the student's result in the pretest showed that most students had difficulties with pronunciation and vocabulary.

Apart from that, from the score of post-test at cycle 1, it can be seen that there was. It can be seen that the use of cardboard story can improve the student's reading comprehension. From their score pre-test and post-test 1 it can be deduced to improve between pre-test and post-test was 16.21% and from score post-test 1 and post-test 2 it can be deduced that 21.21% to improve students' reading comprehension through cartoon story.

Based on the result of active learners on the observation sheet, of the data percentage of active learners in Cycle 1, there were 64.51% learners active in story reading, 70.96% active in reading comprehension through cartoon stories, and 67 .74%. From the cycle 2 observation sheet, there were 83.87% students active in story reading, 87.09% active in reading comprehension through cartoon stories, and 90.32% active in class. Of the number of learning mastery results in pre-test was 9 students, post-test 1 was 20 students, and post-test 2 was 31 students to improve students' reading comprehension through cartoon story.

Together they read a comic strip titled which city would you like to visit. Based on the result of the implementation of reading comprehension using comic strips in two cycles of the classroom action research, the researcher would like to draw the following conclusion. The use of cartoon stories in English learning, especially material narrative text, can increase the attention and activities of eighth graders of SMP N 8 METRO.

Cartoon story functions not only to entertain, but also to support in the teaching-learning process. The creatives use a tool to teach the material to make the students feel interesting, enjoy and highly motivated in learning process. It is also good to do further research that focuses on the use of cartoon story to improve students.
