ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research was to find out the kind of abbreviation used in politc rubric of Singgalang newspaper and to know how the abbreviation constructed in Singgalang newspaper, published on November 13, 16, 17, and 18 2015.The methodology of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected through reading, describing, classifying, and interpreting from politic rubric of Singgalang newspaper.The result of this research found 147 abbreviations that used in politic rubric. The whole data was classified into 3 clipping word type, 45 blend type, 20 acronym type and 79 initialism type. Based on the result of this research, the type of abbreviation often most used in politic rubric of singgalang newspaper was initialism type with 79 abbreviation

Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis dari singkatan kata (abbreviasi) yang digunakan dalam editorial politik dalam koran Singgalang and juga untuk mengetahui pembangunan singkatan kata tersebut dari koran Singgalang yang dipublikasikan pada tanggal 13, 16, 17 dan 18 November 2015. Metodologi dari penelitian ini adalah penelitian diskriptif kualitatif. Data dari penelitian ini didapatkan melalui beberapa langkah yaitu membaca, menggambarkan, mengklasifikasikan dan menginterpretasikan. Semua data diklasifikasikan kedalam 3 singkatan dari tipe clipping word, 45 singkatan dari tipe blend, 20 singkatan dari tipe acronym dan 79 singkatan dari tipe initialism. Tipe dari abreviasi yang paling banyak digunakan di editorial politik dari koran singgalang adalah tipe initialism dengan jumlah 79 singkatan.

INTRODUCTION
The use of abbreviation is not only in daily conversation, discussion or speech but also in writing. It is mostly found in newspaper. The appearance of abbreviation in newspaper is important, because news which is written in newspaper in one publishing is many. If all of news and information is written completely of course it will spend much time and space. In newspaper, space is extra ordinary important because the editor puts the information. That is why, the appearance of abbreviation is important in newspaper.
Based on the explanation above, There are several reason to study phenomena
of using abbreviation in politic rubric of Singgalang newspaper. Firstly, there is increasing of abbreviation processing that is done by journalist. Then the use of abbreviation made the reader do not have much knowledge about it. So it will cause hesitation and misunderstanding of meaning and will make ambiguity. After that it can influence the purpose of communication and minimalism the real function of language which used by journalist in it. Beside that people think that the use of abbreviation in oral or written form can destructive the original of regional language and than becomes popular in the society. Last, the crucial problem is no explanation found of
the abbreviation and unsynchronized the writing of abbreviation with the rules of forming abbreviation. The effect of using incorrect abbreviation can cause misunderstanding of information by reader.
Dealing with the problem of this research, there was a study that has been concluded by previous researchers. Firstly, Jelvi Irawan (2013) has conducted research entitled “Types of Indonesian Abbreviations Found in Economic Business Rubric of Padang Express Newspaper”. The purpose of this research were to find out types of abbreviation in Economic Business rubric of Padang Express newspaper, and to know how the abbreviations constructed in Economic Business rubric of Padang Express newspaper. The design of this research was a descriptive research. The data of this research consisted of 110 abbreviation words, they were taken from 28 editions of Padang Express newspaper in February 2011. Based on the whole data , the journalist used abbreviation words in Padang Express newspaper especially in Economic Business rubric.
Secondly, Evie Tristianasari (2011) has conducted a research with the title
“Indonesian Abbreviation in SMS (Short Message Service) at Senior High School Students in Kabupaten Banyuwangi”. The purposes of this research were to describe the types of abbreviation in SMS, the meaning abbreviation, and the factors that influence using abbreviation in sending messages or SMS. The design of this research was a descriptive qualitative research. Sources of the data got from students in the three Senior High School at Kabupaten Banyuwangi along June-August 2011, and the participant of this research was 305 students. The results of this research were the students sent messages have used the types of abbreviation such abbreviation, acronym, contraction, and symbols.
Thirdly, Eka Bagus Mahardika (2013) has conducted research with the title
“Abbreviations within Military Jargons in
“Generation Kill” Movie Series”. This study focused of on analyzing about the word formation processes of abbreviations within military jargon in certain movie series dialogues. The research design of this study is qualitative-quantitative. The main data are
taken from the dialogue of the “Generation Kill” movie series. The purpose of this research was three, such as to find out abbreviation used in the movie, to know full form of abbreviation, and to find out types of abbreviation used in the movie. The data in this study are collected by transcribing the dialogues in the movie series, then the researcher tries to find and identify the abbreviated word by making, classifying, and analyzing through every sentence. The result of this study confirms 242 data, there are 4 word formation process which related to the abbreviated word appear. The most processes appear are acronym with 154 words (63,63%), and the following are clipping word with 67 words (27,7%), blending with 17 words (7, 03%), and multiple processes with only 4 words (1, 64%) appear .
Referring on previous study above, the researcher wants to analyze the types of abbreviation used in politic rubric of Singgalang newspaper published on November 13th, 16th,17th,and 18th, 2015

RESEARCH METHOD
The design of this research was descriptive research. According to Gay and Airasian(2000:239), a descriptive study determines and describes the way things are.
In analyzing the data, researcher followed the steps that suggested by Gay and Airasian Firstly reading, Second, describing, the third is classifying, and the last is interpreting.
The data of this research was politic rubric of singgalang newspaper on November 13, 16, 17 and 18, 2015.
FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION
The researcher found findings after conducting the research and analyzing the data. After analyzing the data, the researcher found 147 abbreviations used in politic rubric of Singgalang newspaper which published on November 13th, 16th, 17th, and 18th 2015. After that, researcher categorized the data based on the types of abbreviation proposed by Schendl (2001: 28-29), they are clipping word 3 abbreviations, blend 45 abbreviations, Acronym 20 abbreviations, and Initialism79 abbreviations.
CONCLUSION
Based on the finding as already discussed in the previous chapter, it is known that the use of abbreviation gives positive impact for journalist. Abbreviation used in politic rubric of Singgalang newspaper is able to make news become short and, brief, and economic. Moreover, abbreviation limits the space which is available to explain the news. However, the writer or journalist ought to notice the appropriateness in using abbreviation. It can add parentheses to explain abbreviation, because there are many abbreviations and not all of thoses abbreviation are known by readers. By adding parentheses, it can help readers interpret the abbreviation and it also can avoid ambiguous and misunderstanding.
