AN ANNALYSIS OF TEACHING PROCESS OF CERTsIFIED ENGLISH TEACHER

AT SENIOR HIGH SHOOL 6 SOUTH SOLOK

ABSTRAK

Skripsi ini mengkaji prosess mengajar guru serifikasi bahasa Inggris. Prosess mengajar merupakan suatu bagian penting yang mempengaruhi keberhasilan dalam dunia pendidikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagai mana penerapan prosess mengajar guru sertifikasi bahasa Inggris di SMAN 6 Solok Selatan dalam 3 komponen yaitu; pre- instructional, instructional dan post-instructional. Jenis dari penelitian ini adalah penelitian qualitative dengan pendekatan basic interpretative studeies. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini adalah guru sertifikasi bahasa Inggris SMAN 6 Solok Selatan yang dipilih menggunakan total sampling dan terpilih 2 orang guru sebagai partisipan. Dalam mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan observasi dan interview. Hasil dari penelitian ini peneliti menemukan bahwasannya penerapan prosess mengajar di SMA 6 Solok selatan berjalan dengan baik. Guru sertifikasi bahasa Inggris menerapkan hampir semua sub indicator dari pre-instructional, instructional, dan post- instructional diatas dengan baik. Selain itu, berdasarkan data dari interview yang di peroleh terdapat kesinambungan dengan hasil observasi yang telah dilakukan. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan prosess mengajar oleh guru sertifikasi bahsa Inggris berjalan dengan baik dan semestinya.

INTRODUCTION

Teaching process is some activities involving teachers and students to get a good result in education. This activity is more about teachers’

capability in doing their responsibility. On the other hand, teaching implementation will be an important process in teaching. This process describe about teachers ability in transferring material for students.

It will be reflected in pre-instructional teaching, instructional teaching, and post-instructional teaching. First in teaching pre-instructional the teachers can give motivation, pre test, tell about the subject matter, explain about the purpose, and describe about the steps in learning. Second, in instructional teaching is depending on teachers managing the classroom, teacher’s interaction, and skill in teaching. It has purpose to make students easy to doing learning process and get learning goals.

Finally, in post-instructional teaching the teachers should summarize the subject matter, make conclusion with students, give post test to make sure about students understanding, and also give remedial or enrichment in the last of process.

Therefore, if the teacher their responsible better will receive appreciation to increase their prosperity from the government. Based on law number 5/2012 about certification in position of teachers (4) the first examination to examine teacher’s skill will be started with monitoring and teachers implementation of teaching process. Then, it

can increase quality in education with doing better in implementation of teaching process..

Based on researcher’s pre observation in Senior High School 6 South Solok, researcher found that the phenomena describe about teachers implementation of teaching process. In implementation of teaching, the teachers doing pre- teaching better, but the teachers do not do some indicator for teaching implementation in pre- instructionnla, instructional and also in post- instructional. It is like do not give brainstorming, do not give pre test, and do not give remedial in the post intstructional.

In this research, the researcher focuses on implementation of teaching process of certified English teachers in Senior High School 6 South Solok. The researcher formulated the problem of this research as follow “How is implementation of teaching process of certified English teacher at Senior High School 6 South Solok?

Defiinition of Teaching Process

Teaching process is one action to support good condition in learning process. According to Sardiman (2001:45) teaching process is an effort to create the condition that supports the learning process runs well. Based on the statement above, it will give more contribution to make learning process better. If teachers can do their best in teaching process, means

2 the learning process can get a good result in

education. In teaching, teachers as a guide should find the situations that make the students easier to get knowledge. It is better if the teacher give their knowledge inside the classroom, because in the classroom teaching or learning process will conducive and run well. This capability can support the successful in teaching process and also get a good result in learning process.

Furthermore, Acero et.al (2007:4) state, Teaching is a process or set of actions to induce learning and eventually to succeed in learning. Based on theory above, in teaching process teachers need planning for teaching, teaching process, and achievement aspect. Thus, it means teaching process is a deliberate process, it does not just happen.

In summary, teaching process will be interaction between teachers and students to get educational purpose. It is as activities that support learning process run well. In teaching process, teachers should give stimulus, instruction, and encouragement for students. It influences their spirit and their mind related with the lesson. Besides, teaching process also as a cause of successful in learning process. If the teachers provide the best capability in teaching, will made a good result in education.

Aspect in Teaching Process

Teaching process has some indicator to make successful in teaching and learning. According to Suryosubroto (2002), in teaching process there are three steps such as teaching preparation, implementation, and also evaluation. There are many aspects that can teacher done in teaching preparation like making lesson plan, preparation media and also material, finding strategy, and preparing assignment for student that related with teaching process. On the other hand, implementation should be what the teachers doing in teaching process itself. It can be teacher ability in material, teacher strategy in transfer the material for the students, classroom management, and teachers and also student interaction in teaching and learning process. All of activity in teaching implementation is depend on teacher creativity and also teacher ability in teaching process. Different with implementation, in teaching evaluation need more teachers approach to student which has purpose to make sure about students understanding. It would like give assignment for students that related with subject matter, assess student assignment, and give some of remedial for filed students. If some of ways should run well, it means teachers will get the purpose of education.

Implementation of Teaching Process

One of steps that will be influenced successful in teaching process is implementation. In implementation of teaching process, teachers have a more responsibility because it will be influenced teaching and learning process run well. It is interaction between teachers and students to extend the subject matter. Nevertheless, According to Robert M. Bagne in Majid (2013:234), ability in implementation of teaching process starts from;

f. explain about steps in teaching 2. instructional

a. classroom management 3. post-instructional

a. summarizing the subject matter b. make conclusion

d. Remedial or enrichment.

Based on theory above, for the first in pre- instructional the teachers should give motivation for student and build their attention to teaching process.

It has purpose to make students easy to understand about the subject matter. After build students attention the teachers give pre-test to entry their behavior. Next, teachers tell about the subject matter and also the purpose of subject matter. Then, explain about steps of teaching process will be the last process that will teachers do in pre instructional activity.

Therefore, in instructional activity teachers have responsibility to managing classroom. In this step, teachers will be show their ability in giving material, use strategy which is make student easy to understand, handle students crowded, and give feedback related to the material. This activity also called main activity in teaching process.

Then, in post-instructional, teachers give summarizing about the material. After that, teachers and students make a conclusion related with the material. To make sure about students understanding, teachers should give post test in the end of process.

After doing post test teachers give remedial or enrichment for students to make them more understand about the material before. It is better for all of teachers to doing every step

in

implementation of teaching process to get successful.

Certified English Teacher

According to kusnandar (2010:15), certified teacher is the teacher, who has fulfilled the standard

3 of qualification and competence. After fulfill the

standard they got the certificate. The teachers who passed the certification program have some characteristics. It is include four competences of professional teacher, pedagogical, personal, social, and professional competence.

From the definition above, it can be concluded that teacher certification is acknowledgement for teachers as professional educators. The certification is given after they have passed the competency test done by the certification institution. It can be said that the certified teacher is the teacher who gets the acknowledgement as professional educator. Thus, certification will be influenced teachers motivation to be best in teaching process

METHOD OF THE RESEARCH

In this research, the researcher conducts basic interpretative studies in qualitative research.

According to Ary et.al (2010: 29) basic interpretative studies provide descriptive accounts target to understanding a phenomena using data that might be collected in a varies way, such us interviews, observations, and document review. Thus, by understanding phenomena that happened at Senior High School 6 South Solok, the researcher will describe about the implementation of teaching process of certified English teacher.

The participants in this research are certified English teacher at Senior High school 6 South Solok.

There are two certified English teachers. In this research, the researcher use total sampling to take a sample, because the researcher choose all of certified English teacher at Senior high School 6 South Solok.

this research used observation (observation checklist and video record) and interview as the instruments to collect the data.

In collecting data, the researcher did some activities. First, the researcher came to the school where the researcher done the research. Second, the researcher permitted to the administrator of school to did the research with certified English teachers at the Senior High School 6 South Solok and asked about the schedule of the teachers. Third, the researcher observed all of activities that related to the teaching process which happened during process of teaching in classroom. Forth, the researcher recorded all of activity that happened during teaching process. Fifth, the researcher collected the data by interview the informant. The interview related with the indicator of teaching process above.

After researcher got the data, researcher did several procedures to analize the data. Ary et.al (2010:481) explains that the procedures for analyzing

the data consist of familiarizing and organizing, coding and reducing, and interpreting and representing.

FINDINGS

The data finding of this research was found that the certified English teachers at Senior High School 6 South Solok have implemented of teaching process well. Based on the two participants who were observed, the researcher found that almost the entire teacher used some steps that related to implementation of teaching process.

Based on the data analysis above, the result of the two instruments showed that the certified English teacher at Senior high School 6 South Solok implemented some steps in implementation of teaching process in the classroom. However, purpose of this research was to know the implementation of teaching process by certified English teachers at Senior High School 6 South Solok. The result of observation and interview which was explained in data analysis and finding above showed that there was one of certified English teacher at Senior High School 6 South Solok (First participant) almost implemented all of steps in implementation of teaching process. There were pre-instructional as a first step in implementation of teaching process. The teacher just did not implemented two of sub indicators in step pre- instructional. It happened to shorten the time and made students more focus with subject matter. Then in post- instructional, the teacher also did not implemented about remedial and enrichment at the last process of implementation of teaching process. It happened because the teachers change the remedial or enrichment with student’s time work or home work. It was necessary to make teaching process regular and run well.

On the other hand, the other certified English teacher at Senior High school 6 South Solok (first participant) implemented some of steps in implementation project assessment. The first participant implemented three of sub indicators in pre- instructional. There was gave appreciation, told about the topic, and told about the purpose. In instructional, the second participant also did classroom management well. After that, in post- instructional teachers did not remedial and enrichment. Same with the firs participant, she was changes remedial or enrichment with student’s team work or home work. It necessary to make students more understand about thesubject matter.

Interpretation

In this section, the researcher gave the final result about implementation of teaching process

4 of certified English teacher. The teachers did some of

indicator in implementation well but lost some points in each indicator. The first is pre test in pre- instructional. It was happened because the teachers did not have much time to do pre test. The second is explaining about steps in teaching process. The teachers reflect that with their ways to tell about the subject matter in instructional. In instructional itself, the teachers did well. It was start from arrange classroom management until handle students noisy.

The last is remedial or enrichment in the post- instructional. It was happened because he teachers changes with the other ways. They ordered students to do team work or home work. It was necessary to make students more understand about the subject matter.

In conclusion, the implementation of teaching process of certified English teacher at Senior High School 6 South Solok was run well. Although there was the teachers did not several points in pre- instructional and post instructional but it can make students with the subject matter. It can proof with student’s active in classroom. They raise them hand to answer the question of the teachers during the process. Thus, it was not influence the successful in teaching process.

CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

Implementation of teaching process is one of important steps in teaching process. In this reserach, the researcher analyzes the implementation of teaching process doing by certified English teacher at Senior High School 6 South Solok. There are three steps in imlpementation of teaching process. They are pre- instructional, instructional, and post- instructional. Teachers should doing all of steps in implementation to make teaching and learning process run well.

In addition, the researcher found that two participant did some of sub indicator in pre- instructional, instructional, and post-instructional.

Then after the researcher analyze the data, the researcher conclude that there is one of the teacher at Senior High School 6 South Solok implemented almost steps of implementation of teaching process and one teachers other implemented some steps of implementation of teaching process. Although the participants lose some indicator in implementation, the teaching process still runs well.

Based on the research findings as conclusion of the study, the researcher would like to give some suggestion: first, the researcher proposes the certified English teachers to involve their ability in implementation of teaching process. It has benefit to increase teaching and learning process run well and get successful in education. Besides, the teachers

should done all steps in implementation of teaching process, starts from pre- instructional, instructional, and post instructional. Second, it is suggested for government to give more attention for student’s activity in classroom. Last, it is suggested for the reader as an additional knowledge and references if she/ he want to investigate some variable.
