Crandall was a member of the Board of Trustees when the University was founded in 1857. Few changes have taken place in the faculties of the University since my last report.

Those who can assist in completing the file of this paper and that of the National Era are requested to contact Mr. Communicating Long Island, presented to the library a set of the American and Euglish Encyclopedia of Law, First Edition, 31 volumes, (including index of 2 VoL) of about 1,100 pages each. The text consists of a concrete, though complete and clear, statement of the law, profusely annotated with citations to cases decided by the higher courts, including frequent extracts from the judges' opinions.

HARRV THURSTON PECK. editor of Knjikar, advocated the recognition of literature as a profession and claimed that the current state of literature will always be unsatisfactory until this recognition is achieved. Dean Main spoke earnestly, though briefly, of the influence of theological seminars on the religious thought of the world, and of Alfred's efforts in this direction. MAXSON, president-elect of the Alumni Association, was introduced, and after acknowledging the honor conferred upon him by his election, he indulged for a short time in reminiscing about the days of his student life at Alfred.

TREASURER'S REPORT Expenditure of Maintenance Fund
I called attention to the work in the schools, and for the purpose of promoting this study I visited the Association at Belmont and Almond, and a meeting of the class-masters and teachers of science in each case for the assembled teachers. Calls for technical assistance have been received and prepared multiple times, and investigations are still ongoing into manufacturing issues. As usual I have attended the meeting of the Ceramic Society of America and am doing my best to advance technical work in the country.

She had been active in temperament and a prominent advocate of women's suffrage. He was born in Rhode Island, but his parents moved to Alfred when he was just a boy. He was married to Miss Della Catlin July 23, 1879; four children were born to them, three of whom, with their mother, survive him.
