ARTICULATION AGREEMENT DIVISION OF LABOR STUDIES
OF
INDIANA UNIVERSITY-PURDUE UNIVERSITY INDIANAPOLIS AND
IVY TECH STATE COLLEGE
Whereas, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE) has approved the
Bachelor of Science in Labor Studies at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), and
Whereas, ICHE has approved Ivy Tech State College to offer the Associate Degree in Apprenticeship Technology, and
Whereas, IUPUI and Ivy Tech are both accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and are members of the North Central Association (NCA), and
Whereas, the Division of Labor Studies (DLS) of IUPUI and Ivy Tech State College both wish to create an educational partnership agreement making two and four year degrees available to union construction industry employees, and
Whereas, Ivy Tech State College wishes to become an educational partner with the DLS of IUPUI and will offer transferable credit of up to 56 credits of coursework that satisfy the requirements of junior status in the Bachelor of Science in Labor Studies degree program at IUPUI.
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the DLS of IUPUI and Ivy Tech State College that:
1. The DLS of IUPUI and Ivy Tech State College will become educational partners.
2. All components of this educational partnership will meet the requirements of the ICHE and the NCA.
3. Relationships between Ivy Tech State College and the DLS of IUPUI have been and will continue to be in a spirit of cooperation which provides the basis for all articulation initiatives.
4. Ivy Tech State College will continue to offer both an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree in Apprenticeship Technology and an Associate of Science (A.S.) Degree in Apprenticeship Technology as a part of the partnership.
5. Graduates of the Ivy Tech State College A.A.S. and A.S. Degree programs in any Construction, Building Trades Apprenticeship who successfully
complete the B.S. Degree program in Labor Studies, meeting all transfer, retention, and graduation requirements as stated in the DLS bulletin, will be awarded the degree of B.S. in Labor Studies from Indiana University.
6. The DLS of IUPUI will accept the technical credit hours earned at Ivy Tech as a block of 44 credit hours.
7. The DLS of IUPUI will also accept 12 credit hours that have been previously articulated. These courses will include:
Ivy Tech’s History of Organized Labor - HAS 101 (articulated as LSTU 101)
Interpersonal Communication – COM 102 (articulated as COMM 180)
English Composition – ENG 111 (articulated as ENG W131)
One three-credit Social and Behavioral Science elective
8. The A.A.S. and A.S. degree graduate from Ivy Tech, with a block of 44 credit hours and 12 articulated credits will be eligible to transfer into IUPUI as a DLS major with 56 credit hours and junior status.
9. Students who have completed their A.A.S. and A.S. apprenticeship degrees at Ivy Tech before the implementation of this agreement may be allowed, on a case-by-case and course-by-course basis, to transfer those courses into the B.S. program.
10. Students who transfer with additional articulated courses will get full credit in addition to credits agreed upon in this document, provided they earn at least 24 credit hours at IU and satisfy all DLS degree requirements.
11. Recognizing that changes in curricula and course content are inevitable, each institution agrees to discuss with the other institution all curriculum changes affecting this agreement before the changes are implemented.
12. The separate governing boards of Ivy Tech State College and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis control tuition, fees, and policies related to student charges for each institution.
13. This agreement is in effect on June 1, 2004. Either party must give notice in writing at least 120 days prior to the expiration of any anniversary of the effective date of its intention to modify or terminate the agreement.
