Beliefs Specific to Educational Programs

The doctoral prepared graduate in nursing is a scientific researcher for the development of nursing and theory building in nursing in the role of the university teacher, consultant, administrator or practitioner. Continuing education in nursing consists of planned, organized learning experiences designed to complement the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of registered nurses for the improvement of nursing practice, education, administration, and research.

The Code for Nurses

34; Graduate education in nursing provides the broad foundation in the sciences and humanities necessary to prepare professional nurses skilled in assessing nursing needs and providing nursing interventions. The concept of continuing education in nursing has its origins in an initial nursing program in which nurses begin to develop a commitment to lifelong learning.

Graduate Nursing Student Organization All graduate students accepted into the School of Nursing are members of the organization. The purpose of the organization is to uphold the ideals and standards of the School of Nursing.

School of Nursing Student Services Department

Organization, Alpha Chapter Membership in this service organization is open to all registered nurses enrolled in the School of Nursing's baccalaureate program. Pre-nursing students who have reached the second year of the pre-nursing program will be assigned to the School of Nursing for academic advising and certification advising.

Indiana University at Kokomo

Indiana University East has offered the Associate of Science in Nursing program in its entirety since August 1983. As of 1986, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program can also be earned at the JU East campus.

Indiana University Northwest

Applicants for admission to the program are subject to admissions procedures and standards as described in the bulletin for Indiana University at South Bend plus policies and procedures specific to the School of Nursing. Admission to the School of Nursing does not provide certification for the senior nursing department.

General Education Courses Relevant to the Nursing Major

Advanced Placement for Licensed Practical Nurses (L.P.N.'s)

Complete degree requirements within four years of first enrolling in the nursing major. A grade point average of 2.0 or better is required in all general education courses in the nursing curriculum. A student will be dismissed from the program when, at the discretion of the Admissions, Advancement, and Graduation Committee at the campus of enrollment,.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

The two years of upper division nursing courses can be taken at the South Bend, Southeast, Northwest, Kokomo, East and IUPUI campuses. Students at Bloomington must transfer to IUPUI, IUE, IUK, IUN, IUS or IUSB to complete their upper division nursing major.

Application and Admission

Successful completion of the prerequisite courses does not guarantee certification for the senior nursing department. Submit an official credit transfer report (CTR) to the School of Nursing for all work that is transferred from another university (non-Indiana University courses). The deadlines for submitting the CTR to the School of Nursing are May 15 for fall certification and September 30 for spring certification.

Academic Standing of Students

The student may request readmission to the School of Nursing by writing to the Assistant Dean of Student Services-Indianapolis and Bloomington Campuses; Academic. The following policies apply to all students certified in the School of Nursing degree program. Re-entering students must adhere to the current School of Nursing policies and curriculum in effect at the time of re-entry.

Curriculum Design

School of Nursing is not responsible for certifying students for a degree if the students do not submit the applications. Application for the degree _must be made at the time of program planning for the last semester. The student must submit the degree application to the School of Nursing Admission by September 1 for December graduation and December 1 for May, June and August graduation.

Master of Science in Nursing Program

Cooperation in the implementation of medical care with clients, individuals from related professions and other interested persons. Demonstrate competency in clinical knowledge, clinical specialization, or health care systems management. The School of Nursing offers master's degrees in women's health, perinatal nursing, nursing at-risk children, pediatric nursing, primary nursing for adults, nursing for adults with biodissonance, psychiatric/mental health nursing for adults, child/adolescent psychiatry/.

Admission Requirements

The school also offers post-masters opportunities in all clinical areas, nursing administration and teacher education.

Degree Requirements

The Department of Community Health Nursing offers two tracks in the community health nursing major: (1) Community-Based Nursing Practice, and (2) Community Home Health Care. Grade point averages in the School of Nursing and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs will be calculated separately. Students enrolled in the combined program will be assigned co-advisors, one each from the faculty of the School of Nursing and School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

Doctor of Nursing Science Program

Continuation in the program will require the student to meet academic standards at each school. A student who fails in one school but meets academic standards in the other may complete the work for the degree at the school where the student is able to meet the academic standards. Such completion must be on the same terms (credit hours, residency, etc.) as required of regular (non-combination) graduates (ie 42 credit hours for the School of Nursing and 48 credit hours for SPEA).

Applicants must meet the requirements of the Doctor of Nursing Science program in the School of Nursing and the specific. The School of Nursing is not responsible for certification of the degree if the student does not submit the application. The pattern and duration of the Doctor of Nursing Science program for the individual student will be determined in consultation with the student's primary advisor.

The goal of this doctoral course is to prepare nurses for the highest administrative positions in complex health care delivery systems. The goal of this doctoral study is to provide an analysis of current administration theory to nurses in non-administration oriented professional academic nursing programs. The goal of the doctoral program in health policy and community health is to prepare nurses for the health policy arena.

General Policies

Undergraduate Admissions Policy

Students who have been out of high school for three or more years do not need to submit test scores unless required for admission to specific programs. For individuals who do not meet the above criteria and who have been out of high school for three or more years, admission may be based on other factors, such as a general education. If any provision of this Policy is invalid, the invalidity will not affect other provisions of this Policy which may be given effect without the invalid provision, and for this purpose the provisions of this Policy may be severed.

Transfer to Other Indiana University Campuses

Transcripts must reflect a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for Indiana residents and at least a 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) for out-of-state residents. The credentials of students seeking to transfer to Indiana University will be evaluated on an individual basis. When students do not qualify on the first application, they will be advised on ways to remove the deficiencies so that they can qualify for admission at a later date.

Residency Status

Such a student will only be allowed to submit his supporting documents after 12 months have elapsed from the date on which he was eligible for residence, i.e. the date the student started the 12-month period of residence. All factors will be considered in combination and regular student status will not be derived from actions required or routinely performed by aliens in the country or which are merely ancillary to the fulfillment of educational purposes. a) Residence of the student's parents or guardians. 5 On the Bloomington campus, students enrolled for more than 3 credit hours pay a mandatory health care contribution. On the Indianapolis campus, part-time students enrolled in 1-8 credit hours pay a mandatory student activity fee of $2.50 per semester. Fees for 1-3 credit hours per semester or summer sessions (the latter count as one semester) are.
