AU track and field teams compete in state indoor championships 2/28/11

CANTON, NY The Alfred University men's and women's indoor track and field teams each competed Friday and Saturday at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference championships, hosted by St. Lawrence University. The AU women took eighth and the Alfred men finished in ninth.Freshman Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) paced the AU women, placing second in the pole vault with an ECAC-qualifying height of 3.20 meters. She was also sixth in the high jump (1.53 meters). Freshman Eliza Parker (Oswego, NY/Oswego) was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in an ECAC-qualifying time of 8.96 seconds and freshman Liz De Monte (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman) was eighth in the high jump (1.48 meters).Senior Melissa Haahr (Owego, NY/Tioga), freshman Corine Pettit (Strykersville,

NY/Holland), sophomore Erin Johnstone (West Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) and junior Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown) were seventh in the distance medley relay (13:46.61); freshman Armoni Jeffries

(Rochester, NY/School of the Arts), Pettit, sophomore Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and Parker were sixth in the 4X200-meter relay (1:54.20); and Morrissey, Pettit, freshman Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and Parker were sixth in the 4X400-meter relay (4:20.31).Freshman Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor) and senior Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) each had second-Place finishes Cassin in the high jump (1.88 meters) and Ross in the shot put (15.00 meters, ECAC qualifying) to lead the Alfred men.Other top performers for the Alfred men were:

freshman Craig Gaymon (White Plains, NY/White Plains), sixth in the high jump (1.83 meters); junior Evan Roush (Newport, PA/Newport), seventh in the triple jump (12.83 meters); and junior Richard Scott (Eden, NY/Eden), sixth in the 400-meter run (51.49 seconds).The team of sophomores Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland) and Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster Catholic), Gaymon and Scott qualified for the ECAC championships with their fifth-place finish in the 4X200-meter relay (1:33.38). Scott, sophomore Stefan Nonnenmann (New Providence, NJ/New Providence), Weaver and Gaymon were seventh in the 4X400-meter relay (3:30.74).The AU men and women are in action next on Friday and Saturday, March 4 and 5, at the ECAC indoor championships in Northampton, MA.
