AU indoor track and field teams open season at Cornell Relays 12/03/07
ITHACA, NY The Alfred University men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened their 2007-08 season at the Cornell Relays Saturday. There were no team scores.Freshman Austin Fox took fifth place in the triple jump to pace the Alfred men. Senior Aiden Grace (Fairfax, VT/Fairfax) earned a seventh-place finish in the 5,000-meter run, while junior Dan Ohart (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) finished 10th in the same event.Other top performers for the AU men's team were freshman Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) and junior Ryan Squillacioti (Smithtown, NY/Hauppauge), seventh and 11th, respectively, in the shot put, and sophomore Corey Smith (Albion, NY/Charles D'Amico), 11th in the 5,000-meter run.Freshman Melissa Haahr (Tioga, NY/Owego) placed 16th in the 3,000-meter run to lead the Alfred women's team. Other top performers for the AU women were freshman Casey Youngman (Wolcott, NY/North Rose-Wolcott), 13th in the 5,000-meter run; and senior Ashley Johnson (Montrose,
PA/Montrose), sophomore Laura Vaughn (Minneapolis, MN/South) and freshman Betsy Lord (Hershey, PA/Hershey), 20th, 22nd and 24th, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run.Alfred is in action next on Saturday, Jan. 19, at RIT.
