MINUTES

GOVERNING COMMITTEE OF THE P1JTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA Washington, D. C.

November 30, 1965

The meeting of the Governing Cormnittee of the FFA was called to order by H. N. Hunsicker, Chairman. Others present included E. J. Johnson and

w.

P.

Gray (members of the Committee). Mr. Gray also served as Secretary.

Mr. Hunsicker reported that the 4-C Project requesting funds for holding a national clinic for executive secretaries had been rejected according to a message received from Mr. Michael Russo. It was meved by Mr. Johnson, seconded by Mr. Gray and carried that Mr. Hunsicker contact Mr. Russo or the proper officials for a written record as to why this request was rejected.

In compliance with a previous request made by the Board of Directors that they have an opportunity to review a rough draft of the minutes of the Board meetings, it was moved by Mr. Johnson, seconded by Mr. Gray and carried that

three secretaries be used to keep the minutes of the January 1966 meeting.

Each, in rotation, will take the minutes for one-half day, transcribe the notes and prepare a preliminary draft which is to be made available to the Board of Directors for review before the c~nclusion of the final session. It was further agTeed that all minutes of the Board meetings be edited and mailed from the National FFA Adviser to State Advisors, Executive Secretaries, Head Teacher Trainers and the Board of Trustees of the Foundation within two weeks following the meeting.

It was agreed by the CoDDDittee that Miss Nicholson be continued as administra- tive assistant to the Head of Vocational Agriculture to assist in the affairs of vocational agriculture, FFA and the National FFA Foundation. Mr. Johnson and Miss Nicholson were designated to identify and list in detail the specific duties and responsibilities this position entails.

It was moved by Mr. Johnson, seconded by Mr. Gray and carried that Mr. Hawkins and Mr. Carnes be responsible for reviewing complete insurance needs to cover the FFA building and the contents therein, and that a report be made the Governing Committee prior to the January B•ard meeting.

It was moved by Mr. Gray, seconded by Mr. Johnson and carried that the FFA lock box in the First National Bank at 1333 G Street, N. W. be under the control of the National FFA Office with pass keys to be used only by the National Advisor and National Executive Secretary.

The bids for the printing of the 1965 Convention Proceedings were reviewed.

It was moved by Mr. Gray, seconded by Mr. Johnson and carried that the Maurice Leeser Company be awarded this contract since they submitted the lowest bid.

from the FFA when the occasion warrants it• and that the purchase or ordering of such items be done by Miss Nicholson. In her absence Mrs. Shafer is to assume this responsibility.

Mr. Gray reported on plans for the participation of the National FFA President in the Youth Conference to be held in London, England, December 27 January 10. The theme of the conference is "Race Against Time." In keeping with the action of the Board of Directors at the October meeting where this matter was referred to the Governing Committee, it was moved by Mr. Johnsen,

seconded by Mr. Gray and carried that the expenses of the National FFA Presi- dent to this conference be· approved and paid from funds budgeted for

International Activities. The Executive Secretary was authorized to complete plans for the participation of the FFA President in this conference.

It was moved by Mr. Johnson, seconded by Mr. Gray and carried that Miss

Nicholson be authorized to prepare and make available for the National Advisor the Annual Report and Audit of the Corporation to Congress not later than January 15, 1966.

The gavel was presented to Mr. Johnson. After some discussion, it was moved by Mr. Hunsicker, seconded by Mr. Gray and carried that an honorarium of

$250. be paid to Mr. Johnson on December 31, 1965 for special services rendered to the FFA which he __ performe.d.. during his vacation prior to his retirement.
