13 CHAPTER 3 METHODOLOGY
3.1 Research Design
This study is going to use descriptive qualitative methods. The qualitative methods is characterized by its aims, which relate to exploring and understanding the meaning of some aspect social life, and they tend to generate words rather than numbers, as the data of analysis. The process of research involves emerging questions and procedures, data typically collected in the participant’s setting, data analysis inductively building from particulars to general themes, and the researcher making interpretations of the meaning of the data (Creswel, 2007). Descriptive research will answer the question and give detailed explanations about the result of the writer’s analysis. The writer chose qualitative research because this study aimed to understand the informal words used in "The Sleepover" movie and describe how the word formation is used.
To be more specific, Multiple sources of data is deployed in these qualitative methods. Multiple sources of data refer to gather multiple forms of data, such as interviews, observations, and documents, rather than rely on a single data source. Then the researchers review all of the data and make sense of them, organizing them into categories or themes that cut across all of the data sources.
In data analysis, the researcher uses the theory proposed by Yule to determine the kinds of word formation processes found in this movie. It focuses on the informal

word and what are they can be categorized in the word formation processes. The researcher used the movie's script The Sleepover.
3.2 Method of Data Collection.
3.2.1 Source
The researcher used The Sleepover (2021) movie as the data source. This movie was released on Netflix in 2020. Below is the description of the source:
Title: The Sleepover movie Director: Trish Sie
Released year: August 21, 2020 Producer: Netflix
Genre: action-comedy
Movie Transcript Link: https://subslikescript.com/moviethe_Sleepover 10888708 3.2.2 Procedure
There are some steps conducted in this study:
1. Watching the movie and reading the transcript carefully to identify the informal words that are found in this movie. In this part, the writer repeated this step more than once.
2. Collecting the informal words in the movie.
3. Classifying the informal word based on the word formation processes 4. Interpreting the results of the data analysis.
15 3.3 Method of Data Analysis
The researcher analyzed the data using Yule’s theory about word formation. The researcher tabulated the data into the table. The table consists of the data and the meaning. Next, the researcher discussed and explained the data. Finally, the researcher drew conclusions based on the analysis.
