Beale, A Biblical Theology of the New Testament: Unfolding the Old Testament in the New (Grand Rapids: Baker, 2011). The second part presents the idea of union with Christ and its connection with the going out of the gospel through the church. 34 Insights into the nature of biblical union with Christ and their implications flow through the apostle Paul, who explored these implications for the church in Corinth.

Beale, The Temple and the Church's Mission: A Biblical Theology of the Dwelling Place of God, New Studies in Biblical Theology (Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity, 2004). Most marriage unionists value union with Christ as the result of justification by faith alone. Scholars writing from a vital union with the Christ tradition seem to agree with this thesis.

This summary of Ephesians takes the reader to chapter 5:22-33 - Wives and Husbands: Christ and the Church. This sacrificial love is given because the husband is united with his wife, as the Church is one with Christ. Jesus Christ came for his bride, which is the church.17 The two became one flesh.

He wrote "The Church's One Foundation" based on the ninth article in the Apostles' Creed.

Clark and Marcus Peter Johnson, The Incarnation of God: The Mystery of the Gospel as the Foundation of Evangelical Theology (Wheaton, IL: Crossway. How to reach the whole world by showing God's love. They were "be fruitful and multiply" until let the earth be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

This union presents the means to achieve Genesis 1:26-28 - be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth with the image of the joyful union of the loving Triune God.

It is a type of union of the last times32 between Christ and his sent bride, the church. 35 The Torah begins with the typology of the relationship between Yahweh and his people from Gen 2:24. How the writers of the former prophets communicate the relationship between Yahweh and his people.

How do the writers of the last section of the Tanakh understand Moses' teachings in Genesis 1 and 2.

However, if it stands richly throughout the Bible, it must live warmly in the heart of the church. What changes in the mission of the church when the church changes its view of the apostle Paul and the gospel. 27 Here, I follow Gordon Fee's understanding of the church and its Apostle in 1 Corinthians 4-15.

These verses aim to change the direction of the church's affection back to the central aspect of salvation. Plummer, Paul's understanding of the church's mission: Did the apostle Paul expect the early Christian communities to evangelize. Ware, Paul and the Mission of the Church: Philippians in Ancient Jewish Context (Grand Rapids: Baker, 2011), 9.

This consistency in the author's use of the term draws attention to Paul's expectation of the church's mission. The third and final characteristic of μιμηταί for the church's mission in relates to the church's strategy. He takes pains to remove all obstacles in the way of the gospel of Christ.

This is the nature of the Gospel that remains in the hearts of the faithful (cf. The purpose of the curriculum is to help the Church bring the Gospel to others.

Session one Becoming Commissional- overview

Assignment #1

Session two Becoming Commissional- overview

Knowing the framework of the gospel to read carefully and respond appropriately to people in the local culture.

Assignment #2

  • Pray this week for insights into what changes you may need to make both in your attitude and lifestyle
  • Start memorizing our class passage – 1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1
  • session one Becoming Commissional – its plan
  • session two Becoming Commissional – its plan

In the light of this overview, we now want to zoom in a little closer and look at its four facets. And why it can be useful to understand what lies behind the organization of the facets. 1The four facets are displayed on the back of The Model for convenient overview and review.

This process and strategy aims to 1) show outsiders what the gospel does and 2) tell outsiders what the gospel is.

Assignment #3

Develop our experiential knowledge of the gospel with follow-up skills to share the gospel. It is about what God has done through the life, death and resurrection of his Son. It is about how His justice to justify His justice and His love to justify the sinner come together at the Cross.

As you listen to people, think about how the questions below relate to the biblical storyline.

The change happens NOW when Christ is (re)appreciated. Discuss the difference between 1) just removing the idols and 2) replacing them with Christ. Understanding the difference will shed light on biblical repentance and faith rather than just behavioral adjustment.

Assignment #4

To practice "reading stories" different from the Gospel story by listening to two songs. Notice in the song that risky behavior seems better than the alternative; namely, to be alone, without anyone; no touch, no togetherness. Common Grace: Can you discover something in this story/song that is good, true, truthful, beautiful.

Discuss the ideas from the poem that take common grace and get tangled up in the mess known as idolatry. Discuss how the gospel can cut through this worldview and turn it to the true gospel. Insight into the song's lyrics is drawn largely from Ted Turnau, Popologetics: Popular Culture in Christian Perspective (Phillipsburg, NJ: P & R.

Assignment #5

Note the exhortation to "not forsake the meeting together as some are wont to do." Case Study: The Gospel of Hobbies Case Study: The Gospel of Shopping Case Study: The Gospel of Home Case Study: The Gospel of Church Case Study: The Gospel of Vacations Case Study: The Gospel of Children Case Study: The Gospel of Technology. To begin to feel the sacrifice and joy in developing and establishing a common mission as a herd.

Imagine your growth group moved to a foreign country to plant a church (Have fun with the exercise. Don't over analyze it). In the next 20 minutes, write down these questions, questions that start with who, what, when, where, why and how. 8 The exercise presented here was taken from Gospel communities; a workshop for developing a gospel community on mission at Coram Deo in Omaha, NE.

Bob Thune and the elders at Coram Deo led their church through a workshop on August 25, 2012, which influenced the development of the exercise "Commissioning as a Church-Interruption."

Assignment #6

The only way for a faith community to be a viable alternative community to the world is to be in the world but not of the world (cf. The third aspect in Becoming an Empowered Church is entitled The Pattern (see Tab 4 in your field guide.) The Pattern is the Model , which tries to help explain how to live smart in popular culture.

We are to be less offended by the lifestyles of foreigners (9:19) and we are to be less offended by our lifestyles of foreigners (10:32). Instead of a traditional lifestyle - think "WHIO" Over a trendy lifestyle - think "NPR". For the traditional - think in terms of unnecessary consumption of things. For the trendy - think in terms of abstaining from things unnecessarily.

Assignment #7

If you examine your lifestyle, you basically find a certain type of routine or likeability that is considered "just my style." Personality, preferences, upbringing,. Then put a box around the word that you think reflects the style of your growth group. Here we explore the dominant thoughts/desires that relate to each side of our “slippery slope”.

Here we look at the fundamental reason for failing to live in the world without being of the world and yet being completely for the world. What we believe to be true (that is not) and what we want (that God is not giving us) constitute the basic obstacle that stands in the way of the gospel (cf. 1 Cor. 9:12).

Assignment #8

In this module we explore the necessary areas to help us practice as a herd what we have learned. Last week: We develop the mission that will be processed in the family and growth group. Why would we be interested in receiving invitations in light of Commissioning as a church.

Why would we be interested in giving invitations in light of Commission as a church.

It reads: "By God's grace and through His word, we aim to cultivate in God's people a passion for God's supremacy magnified in love for Him, manifested in love for one another, and multiplied by love for the lost." We know the vision for our growth group ministry and discuss its balance and emphasis. We know the place and the people we are trying to reach with the gospel. We know when we are on mission and when we are going off mission.

Assignment #9

  • am I commissioned?
  • are we Christ-reliant?
  • are we clear?
  • are we creative?
