REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Some PreviousFindings

Based on the above definition, the researcher concludes that comic books are one of the tools or media through which students can improve their writing skills.

Some Pertinent Ideas

Media can be used in almost any discipline to change learning, both in the classroom and for tasks outside the classroom. Short film and television clips, written articles, and blog posts can be viewed to reinforce concepts and spark discussion. Songs and music videos, especially when lyrics are available, can be used to the same effect.

Traditionally, descriptions fall into two categories: objective and subjective. In objective description you record details without making any personal evaluation or reaction. You're probably already aware of some of the complications because you've often been asked, "What's so-and-so?" In answering, you can refer to identification, an impression, or a character sketch, depending on the situation. Comic is an art form that does not use moving pictures are arranged so that the formative structure of the story.

Comics can be published in different forms, starting from the strip on paper, published in a magazine, to form a separate book. Scott McCloud n.d) has brilliantly argued that the history of modern comics, or "sequential art", can be traced back to the paintings of the sharp Ekuptians, making comics an art with roots as pronounced as those of any modern human cultural practice. . Comics can be a single panel or drawing; they can be book-length works; they can be serialized works spanning years and thousands of panels and pages.

Based on various definitions of the above comics, it can be concluded that the comic is one of the literary works of aesthetic value that consists of a combination of images and words that form a story. The structure of comic book pages and panels can be exploited as a visual analogue to written narrative to help children generate, organize and refine their ideas. These formats are all variations of the same big idea: putting one image next to another to make a story happen.

Conceptual Framework

The pre-test aims to improve students' prior writing knowledge, while the post-test measures students' writing improvement after treatment. The pre-test, which aims to recognize the students' writing skills, before being treated, the test was held by the writer. The table above shows that the classification of students based on the experimental class after the test is 2.356.

Thus, it can be concluded that the writing ability of students in SMP Negeri 35 Makassar has improved. So the application of comic book as instructional media in writing descriptive text can improve students' skills. The data collected using the comic book in the previous section shows that students' writing has improved.

It was supported by the frequency in the post-test that the students' score was better after attending comic book teaching than before giving the treatment. The statistical analysis of the result of the seventh grade students of SMPN 35 Makassar writing in this study shows that the students still write less descriptive text. In the previous section we saw that the writing of descriptive texts by the students per comic book has improved.

The students' scores after presenting cartoons as a teaching medium in writing were better than before. The writer assumes that cartoon as a teaching medium in writing is really useful in improving students' writing descriptive text because it was supported by the frequency and percentage of the result of students' scores in pre- and post-test. Based on the discussion above, the writer concluded that cartoon as a teaching medium in writing can improve students' writing descriptive text in SMPN 35 Makassar.
