The reason annexed (added) to the fifth commandment is, a promise of long life and prosperity (so far as it will serve for the glory of God and their good) to all who obey this commandment. The reason: that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God is giving you (Exodus 20:12). Promise: Read Ephesians 6:2–3 Honor your father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That you may be well and live long on earth.
