of theEocene
fossil corals of the United States.Since the publicationof

oftheU.S.Geologi- cal Survey, I find it necessarytomake
several changes in thenames

My
genus Rhectopsammia(op. cit. p.183, pi.XXI,
figs. 11-13)was
based on theyoung
ofEndopachys
maclurei^ea), but I discovered
my
mistakeafter the publication of theMono-
graph.The
genus Endopachys has been characterized as showingno
evidence of attachment.My
Rhectopsammia is the attachedyoung
of Endopachys. Theseyoung
individuals often attain aheight of 6mm.,
then the upper portion of the corallumbecomes
separated from thepedicel. Indications of the
detachment
scarmay
frequently be seen quitelate in the lifeofsome
specimens. Usuallyit isultimatelycom-

any description. I havemade
a careful search for a published de- scriptionofthe species referredto, but have not been able to find any.IhavewrittentoProfessorVerrill forinformationregarding the matter.
He

my name
Paracyathus granulosus will stand,and when
ProfessorYerrill publishes the descriptionof his coral it will be necessaryforhim
togiveitanother name.—
