Defining US Southeast Asia Strategy

A Strategic Analysis of US Foreign Policy under Obama Administration

US Plans New Asia Missile Defense

If we see from a macro analysis, it is likely that the US will deter China militarily. In other words, it is a soft power move to pressure SEA countries and smart power move to threaten China.

Selected 92.000 US troops deployments and plans

During the Cold War, the US government viewed containment of communism as a global task. The new US strategic review (January 2012) clearly shows that the US has been anticipating this from the very beginning. Based on these analyses, US security strategies in the region are inextricably linked to US economic interests.

The US lags behind China in projects on its economic statecraft in the region. In my opinion, this probably happened because the US wants to be a model for regional architecture building in the region. The US is trying to pave the way for economic regional architecture within ASEAN and its economic strategy in the region.

The US does not want this to happen and it is imperative to determine the values in the region. If the US is to continue its hegemonic project in the region, it must pay attention to these considerations. Terrorism is a clear threat to the US to maintain centered order in the region.

The US sees China's rising prominence as sending the region in a direction that diminishes US influence and is against US interests.

The Philippines’ Typhoon Alley

The Historic Bagyos of the Philippines and Their Impact Augusto V. de Viana

The Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR)

A few storms originate in the South China Sea and western Pacific and move eastward. Almost a third of the world's tropical cyclones originate in the western Pacific, making the region one of the most active in the world. Historically, 1964 was the most active year for tropical cyclone formation in the Pacific.

In 2010, only 14 tropical cyclones formed in the Pacific Ocean, seven of which became typhoons. Here, at least 30% of annual rainfall comes from tropical cyclones, while the southern islands receive less than 10% of annual rainfall from tropical cyclones. As a tropical cyclone approaches the Philippines, it sucks in the monsoon and accompanying moisture, releasing large amounts of rain.

Tropical cyclones are strongest near the center or "eye". The design of the "eye". When a tropical cyclone develops very close to a location, the warning bulletin will indicate a shorter time of occurrence.

The disaster preparedness and response agencies and organizations are in action with appropriate response to the current emergency. The improved weather may last for one to two hours depending on the diameter of the eye and the speed of the typhoon. As the eye moves out of the location, it experienced the worst weather before the break resumes.

The Disaster Coordinating Councils and other disaster preparedness organizations are now fully responding to emergency situations and are in full readiness to respond to the possible disaster.

The source of the moisture was not only the cyclone itself, but the accompanying monsoon. One of the worst storms to cause massive destruction was Typhoon Diding (Yunya) in June. It caused the greatest destruction to the churches and houses of the Society of Jesus.

The reports in the second half of the 19th century became very detailed and sometimes accompanied by instrumental data. The role of the observatory became very significant which the Spanish government designated as the official institution for observing weather in the Philippines. Selga also used secondary sources, including the Piddington maps and the History of the Philippines by Rev.

He was the president of the Maritime Courts in Calcutta in the mid-19th century. The History of the Philippines (Murillo, 1749) was written by a Jesuit and provides a comprehensive account of Jesuit activities in the archipelago during the period 1616-1716.

Typhoon Patsy (Yoling)

The typhoon weakened slightly to 210 km/h with an atmospheric pressure of 918 millibars as land in the Philippines blocked the typhoon's airflow. With this strength, it was still destructive after it slammed into Casiguran, Aurora on November 19 and its eye passed over Manila. The typhoon continued to move westward in the South China Sea and hit Vietnam as a tropical storm with winds of 70 km/h and dissipated on November 22.

Path of Typhoon Yoling

Yolanda/Haiyan began as an area of low pressure off Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia on November 2, 2013 and became a storm the following day. He flew over Palau on 6 November and entered the Philippine area of responsibility on the same day. As the super typhoon roared inland, it created a storm surge up to 30 meters high, so residents thought they were being hit by a tsunami.

Of these regions, the provinces of Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte and Samar were particularly affected by the super typhoon. Forty percent of the water districts in Antique were functional and 70% in Iloilo were functional. It was the strongest typhoon on record to make landfall anywhere in the world based on wind speeds of 315 km/h (195 mph).

Due to the immediate need to provide relief to affected residents, President Aquino called for international assistance. The affected regions will bear the scars of Yolanda's destruction for years to come.

The casualties from the typhoon were considered the largest losses in the history of the US Navy caused by a tropical cyclone. The aftermath of Typhoon Cobra, also remembered as Halsey's Typhoon, led to the creation of the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), whose data is used by the United States. The number of casualties in the Eastern Visayan typhoon alley was higher than in any other region of the Philippines because the area is more densely populated.

The frequent occurrence of typhoons in certain areas affected the economy of the typhoon alleys. The occurrence of typhoons also provided an opportunity to try new technologies, especially in the recovery of the affected areas. Psychological trauma is one of the consequences of tragedies that is not given enough attention.

In the case of the Philippines, the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA), or Republic Act No. ICCs/IPs also people who are considered indigenous by virtue of descent from the populations that inhabited the land at the time of conquest or colonization or the establishment of current state boundaries and who retain some or all of their own social, economic, cultural and political institutions , but who may have been driven from their traditional domains or who may have resettled outside their ancestral domains.” (The Indigenous Peoples' Rights Act, RA No. Dayaks use interruptions to create space for food production and use forest succession processes as a production resource, similar to other farmers in Sweden (Alcorn, 1989). The households of the community are connected in interconnected dependent relationships through the rituals and work activities involving rice, which are central to the Swedish system and the identity of the Dayaks.

The sanctity of Keretungan lies in Menuvù's belief that the mountain is the abode of the various invisible spirits. The governance system of the indigenous peoples and societies is deeply rooted in customary knowledge and belief systems. These are the influence of the lowland people, especially to the young generations according to the Menuvù leaders.

Part of the ancestral domain of Menuvù has become one of the targets of investors. The well-being of indigenous peoples must not be neglected and sacrificed for the sake of progress.
