The Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance oversees the management, coordination and day-to-day oversight of IUPUI Athletics' compliance efforts. The Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance will draft a self-report on NCAA and Summit League violations, subject to final review by the Investigations Committee.

Sports Wagering

Individuals employed or associated with IUPUI to administer, direct, or coach intercollegiate athletics must at all times act in a fair and sportsmanlike manner so that intercollegiate athletics as a whole, IUPUI, and they as individuals represent the honor and dignity of fair play and the generally recognized high standards associated with healthy competitive sports. In addition, all individuals employed by or associated with IUPUI Athletics are expected to comply with all NCAA laws governing sports betting, prohibited substances and ethical conduct.

Knowledge of Use of Banned Drugs

Each year, all student-athletes, athletic department employees, and institutional employees with responsibilities within or over the athletic department must sign a Sports Betting and Unethical Conduct Statement acknowledging that the individual understands and will comply with NCAA Division I Bylaw 10.3 during the upcoming academic year.

Unethical Conduct

Knowingly provide false or misleading information to the NCAA, the Summit League, IUPUI, or Indiana University about an individual's involvement in or knowledge of matters relevant to a potential violation of NCAA rule;. Failure to provide complete and accurate information to the NCAA, the NCAA Eligibility Center, IUPUI Admissions and the Department of Athletics regarding an individual's academic record or amateur status; OR

Coaching Staff Limitations

Sports other than basketball may designate one additional individual coach to engage in coaching activities, provided that the individual does not receive any form of compensation or reimbursement from the athletic department and is not engaged in recruiting coordination functions (e.g., assessing prospective student-athletes, contacting potential student-athletes off campus, or making telephone calls to prospective student-athletes). Such coaches may not receive athletic scholarships, parking passes or other benefits other than free meals associated with organized team activities or official visits.

Conduct of Athletics Personnel

No member of the athletic department may act as a consultant for, or endorse or promote, a non-institutional athletic event involving primarily prospective student-athletes. Additionally, a member of the athletic department may not promote or endorse a prospective student-athlete's team or coach or an athletic facility primarily used by the prospective student-athlete.

Student Managers

Members of the Department of Athletics staff may not use, directly or by implication, the name or logo of the University in the branding of commercial products or services for personal gain without the prior written approval of the Director of Athletics and the Chancellor. Athletics department staff members may not accept compensation or gratuities from the manufacturer of athletic shoes, apparel, or equipment in exchange for the use of such merchandise during practice or competition without the prior written approval of the Director of Athletics and the Chancellor.

Outside Activities

The student-athlete and an authorized representative of the charitable, educational or non-profit agency sign a release to ensure that the student-athlete's name, likeness or likeness is used in a manner consistent with these requirements. The appearance, name or image of an enrolled student-athlete may be used to promote the institution's or charitable, educational or non-profit organization's fundraising activities at the location of the commercial institution, provided that the commercial institution is not a co-sponsor of the event and the student-athlete does not promote the sale of a commercial product in connection with fundraising activity.

Outside Competition

NCAA regulations prohibit athletic department personnel from using the institution's name or logo in the endorsement of commercial products or services for personal gain without prior approval from the chancellor. Coaches who want to hold fundraising activities to raise money to support various team activities, e.g. spring training trip, must receive prior written approval from the Director of Athletics (or designee).

Employment and Fee-for-Lesson Instruction

IUPUI facilities may not be used, a student-athlete may not use his or her name, image, or likeness to promote or advertise the availability of paid classes. If group instruction is provided, the student-athlete must provide instruction that is comparable to the instruction he or she would receive in private instruction.

Prospective Student-Athlete Status

IUPUI Official Recruiting Visit Policy

Any person who is aware of impermissible recruiting activities identified in this guide or as regulated by the NCAA should contact the Office of Athletics Compliance immediately. Failure to report impermissible activities may result in sanctions being placed against the institution by the NCAA.

Official Visits

Persons accompanying a prospective student-athlete on an official visit must be identified prior to the visit on the Official Visit Request Form submitted to the Compliance Coordinator. Return expenses may be provided by the institution if the prospect and those accompanying the prospect leave campus within the 48 hours of the official visit.

Unofficial Visits

On-Campus Evaluations

Prospective four-year college student-athletes may participate only after his or her season is complete and the Athletics Compliance Office has permission to contact the student on file. Prior to participating in on-campus evaluation, the prospective student-athlete must undergo a medical examination administered or supervised by a physician.

Local Sports Clubs

If the medical examination is not within six months of the on-campus evaluation, but is within six months prior to his or her initial basketball activities during the most recent season, the requesting coaching staff must provide written documentation from the prospective student-athlete's current institution obtain. document when basketball activities began during the most recently completed season. In the alternative, IUPUI must schedule a physical exam for the prospective student-athlete during his or her visit, which must be an official visit if the physical exam will be at an off-campus physician's office.

Documentation of Recruiting Activities

Recruiting coaches for the sports of Cross Country/Track and Swimming and Diving are required to record all telephone calls made to prospective student-athletes. Coaches in these sports are only required to record the first two countable phone calls made to each prospective student-athlete.

Head Coach Responsibility

All athletic personnel designated as "Recruiting Coaches" must submit monthly Scoutware Contact/Evaluation Reports. For example, January recruiting logs must be submitted to the Office of Athletic Compliance by February 15th.

Recruiting Calendars

Coaches must submit a detailed summary of each recruiting trip on the recruiting travel schedule to the Office of Athletic Compliance at least two business days prior to departure. Reports must be signed and submitted to the Athletic Compliance Office within 15 days of each month.

In addition, student-athletes are expected to follow the IUPUI Online Social Networking Policy found in the Student-Athlete Handbook. All athletic department coaches, staff, student-athletes and stakeholders are encouraged to follow the IUPUI Office of Athletic Compliance on Twitter at @IUPUICompliance.

Sports Camps and Clinics

Institutional staff members working at a camp or clinic are prohibited from recruiting a prospective student-athlete during the time the camp or clinic is in operation. All student-athletes working at a sports camp or clinic must be listed on the camp/clinic's employee list and sign the Student-Athlete Employment Agreement.

Review of Initial Eligibility and Admissions Status

Coaches are expected to advise international student-athletes that full athletic scholarships do not cover the full cost of attendance for international students. Specifically, international students are responsible for taxes, insurance and other fees not covered by athletic scholarships.

Medical Certification

The Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance shall notify the Office of International Affairs that the applicant is a prospective student-athlete, alerting the Office of International Affairs that an athletic scholarship may be available to the student.

Eligibility Forms

Initial Eligibility Certification Process

Transfer Eligibility Certification Process

The Office of Admissions will complete Transfer Tracer forms for each incoming transfer to verify the institutions and number of full-time semesters the student has previously attended, the number and type of transferable credits at IUPUI, the student's transferable GPA and whether the student has previously obtained a degree. Using information provided by Admissions, the student's previous institution, and any additional information necessary, the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance will determine if the student is eligible under applicable transfer legislation using the Transfer Eligibility Checklists.

Continuing Eligibility and the Certification Process

Following each certification meeting, the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance will prepare Eligibility Rosters for distribution within the Athletic Department. Eligibility list lists the student-athletes on each team, whether the student receives athletic aid, the number of years of eligibility the student has remaining after the current academic year, and whether the student is eligible for practice and competition.

Squad Lists

The Registrar and Faculty Athletics Representative serve as certifying officials; no certification will be official until verified by both the Registrar and the Faculty Athletics Representative. Student-athletes may not participate in practices or competitions unless listed as eligible on the eligibility list.

Removal from Roster

Tryouts and Additions to Rosters

At that time, the Office of Athletic Compliance will distribute an eligibility list with a list of approved student-athletes. The Office of Athletic Compliance will also distribute an updated eligibility list that will verify a new student-athlete's eligibility for training.

Male Practice Players

The Office of Athletics Compliance will provide all documentation regarding a student's medical history to the Office of Athletic Training. At that time, the student-athlete must sign the NCAA Drug Testing Consent form, the NCAA Student-Athlete Statement, and any other eligibility forms required by the Office of Athletics Compliance.

Transfer Release

If a student has previously transferred from another institution, the Office of Athletics Compliance must be able to obtain the student's eligibility information from the previous institution prior to the tryout. If a decision is not made within 15 business days, IUPUI will provide a written explanation to the student-athlete.

Student-Athlete Exit Interviews

The written appeal, and any supporting documentation provided by the student-athlete, will be reviewed by the Appeals Committee. The Appeals Committee will provide written results of the hearing to the student-athlete within 15 business days of receiving the student's request for an appeal.

Identification of Student-Athletes for Exit Interviews

Student-athletes who are denied a full transfer request may appeal the athletic department's decision to a committee outside of athletics. If a student-athlete wishes to file an appeal, that appeal must be submitted in writing to the Chair of the Appeals Committee within 30 days of the date on the original notice.

Awarding Athletic Financial Aid

A signed copy of each Grant-in-Aid will be sent by the Office of Athletics Compliance to the Office of Student Scholarships. The Office of Student Scholarships will also implement athletics-based aid into Compliance Assistant Internet (CAi).

Determination of Room and Board

The (prospective) student-athlete is expected to return signed scholarship documents to the Athletics Compliance Office in a timely manner. The Office of Student Scholarships will process athletic financial aid in accordance with regular institutional policy and federal law.

Textbook Authorization Procedures

Prior to the start of each semester, the Director of Basketball Academics sends the course schedules for each full-scholarship basketball student-athlete to the Assistant Manager of the campus bookstore. At the conclusion of each semester, student-athletes are instructed to return all published athletic books to the campus bookstore.

Financial Aid from Outside Sources

The campus bookstore will box the required books for each course for each student-athlete. One receipt is retained by the campus bookstore; the other is held by the Director of Basketball Academy.

Maximum Institutional Financial Aid Limitations by Sport

A numerator is a student-athlete who must be included in the institution's maximum financial aid limits for a particular sport. The student-athlete was not recruited and receives financial aid that is in no way based on athletic ability.

Terms of Athletics Financial Aid

A non-counter is a student-athlete who is not required to be included in the institution's maximum financial aid limits. In sports other than men's and women's basketball, the student-athlete was recruited and receives financial aid that is in no way based on athletic ability, regardless of whether the student represents IUPUI in competition.

Renewal of Athletics Financial Aid

All aid not based on athletic ability must be appropriately certified by the Faculty Athletics Representative, the Office of Student Scholarships, and/or the Director of Admissions.

Statement of Policy: Intercollegiate Athletics Grant-in-Aid upon Career Ending Injury or Illness

The director of athletics and head coach determine the number of hours per week that the student athlete must work. The Director of Athletics reviews the findings of the Head Athletic Trainer and Head Team Physician.

Graduation and Cancellation of Athletics Financial Aid During Period of Award

The process of obtaining continuing financial aid may be initiated by the Head Coach, Head Athletic Trainer or student-athlete by submitting the Summit League Hardship Request Form (herein referred to as Form) to the Head Athletic Trainer. If the Head Team Physician determines that there has been a career-ending injury or illness, the Head Team Physician completes, signs and submits the Form to the Director of Athletics.

Procedures to Appeal the Decision to Reduce, Cancel, or not Renew an Athletics Grant-in-Aid

Athletics Financial Aid for Summer School

The former recipient's aid may not be awarded to another student-athlete in the quarter in which it was reduced or canceled once the academic year has begun. Receipt by a student-athlete of any award, benefit or expense not authorized by NCAA rules renders that student-athlete ineligible to compete unless it is demonstrated that the same benefit is generally available to IUPUI's student body or the general public.

Student Athlete Awards

A special championship ring is awarded by the head coach and Director of Athletics (or designee) to members of a championship team or student-athlete who is an individual champion in his/her sport event. The head coaches must submit the Student-Athlete Awards - Request for Approval to the Office of Athletic Compliance.

Student-Athlete Meals

If a student-athlete receives a letter in more than one sport in any year, the athletic department will present only one varsity award per year to the individual. A student-athlete who letters in another sport will receive a certificate his/her senior year, indicating the years the student-athlete has lettered in that sport.

Meals Incidental to Participation

The head coach and athletic administrator, within department guidelines, will recommend individuals who are eligible to receive the ring. The Compliance Coordinator sends an approval decision (via email) to the head coach and sports administrator.

Nutritional Supplements

The ring design and list of individuals recommended to receive championship rings must be approved by the athletic director. In the event that an outside organization, such as the NCAA or The Summit League, awards prizes or gifts to a team participating in a postseason event (or other special event), separate prizes may be awarded to both the league and the regular season. champion and the postseason League champion, but if the same institution wins both the regular season and the postseason League championship, the combined value of both prizes will not exceed the maximum value of one championship prize.

Compliance will provide the student-athlete guest list to the gameday operations staff serving the passport. All individuals receiving free admission on the Prospective Student-Athlete List must be listed by first and last name; last minute substitutions for another person listed but not participating will not be permitted under any circumstances.

Schedule Approval Process

Declaration of Playing and Practice Season(s)

If approved, the Compliance Coordinator (or external designee) will create a regular season game and practice calendar. The Compliance Coordinator will then email the calendar to the head coach, keeping a copy on file in the compliance office.

Countable Athletically-Related Activities

NOTE: No class time may be missed for any of the above countable athletic-related activities except for those activities associated with competition.]. A written record of countable athletic-related activities is required for each student-athlete, ie. IUPUI CARA Log.

NCAA Sports Sponsorship Requirements

Please note: No other countable activities may take place outside of the designated play/practice season. In sports other than basketball, men's swimming and diving and men's track and field, teams must schedule 100% of the minimum number of games against Division I programs and 50% of games above the minimum against Division I opponents.

Travel Itineraries

In individual sports, the team must also include a minimum number of participants in each competition. In men's swimming and track, teams must complete a schedule consisting of at least 50% Division I opponents.

Summer Access (Basketball ONLY)

Tours carried out during the summer are considered to have taken place during the following academic year. The tour takes place during the summer and the student-athlete was eligible for intercollegiate competition during the previous academic year.

34;Reps" and Recruiting

Have participated in or been a member of an agency or organization that promotes the IUPUI athletics program;. Have made financial contributions to the IUPUI Athletics Department or to an organization supporting IUPUI athletics;.

34;Reps" and Extra Benefits for Enrolled Student-Athletes

34;rep" may not provide transportation to a student-athlete to attend a meal unless the meal is at that "rep's" home. Except for a permitted occasional home meal as noted above, a "rep" (or anyone else) may not provide transportation to a student-athlete offer no additional benefits or special arrangements.

Spouses of Coaches as "Reps"

There are no exceptions for a spouse of a coach to provide an extra benefit or special arrangement to an enrolled student-athlete. Other than the allowable occasional home meal as defined in section 5.3, a coach's spouse may not provide anything to a student-athlete.
