Sri Yuliani. 2015. Developing A Mechanical Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (M-SIOP) Model for Teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) at Mechanical Engineering Department of University. Dissertation. Post Graduate Program. State University of Padang.

The aim of the research was to develop a teaching model for English for specific purposes (ESP) at Mechanical Engineering. This research was based on the preliminary studies in Mechanical Engineering Department of University in studying ESP. From this preliminary studies, the researcher found that the content topic and teaching material were in general English.

To develop the content topic and teaching materials to be given to Mechanical Engineering students, the researcher tried to find out the analysis, the validity, the practicality, and the effectivity of her products in designing and implementing Mechanical Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (M-SIOP) Model at Mechanical Engineering of university.

The design of this Research is R & D approach by using ADDIE Model. The sample was selected from two institutions in Pekanbaru namely Islamic University of Riau and Higher College Technology Pekanbaru (STTP). Five validators involved in evaluating the products to evaluate its validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The quantitative data were collected through a questionnaire and statistically analyzed by using SPSS program while quantitative data were collected through validation sheets.

Based on the research findings of this research that M-SIOP Model used for teaching ESP was considered valid, practical, and effective that it could be used to improve the quality of Mechanical Engineering students. This conclusion is in line with educational policy to continually improve the quality graduation especially for Mechanical Engineering students. For further researchers, this research suggests to conduct similar studies to develop M-SIOP Model in other program of education.

In summary, developing a M-SIOP Model was giving a great contribution for education especially in Mechanical Engineering Department. This great contribution may lead the next researcher to develop and adopt M-SIOP model for teaching and learning model enrichment.
