Judul Skripsi: Improving students' writing skills in procedural text using visual media (A classroom action research of eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Takalar). Improving students' writing skills in procedural texts by using visual media among eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Takalar. This study aimed to find out the improvement of students' writing skills in procedural texts through the use of visual media in the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 2 Takalar.

The number of subjects of the study was 33 students, while the eleventh grade consisted of 24 females and 9 males. The findings indicated that students' performance in writing skills in Cycle 1 reached the standard target performance KKM 7.5. Based on these findings, the researcher concluded that the use of Picture Media could improve students' writing skills in procedural texts in the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 2 Takalar.

My sincere thanks to all the lectures of the FKIP UNISMUH, especially to the lectures of the English Department and all the staff of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar for their guidance during the years of my studies. Finally, by reciting Alhamdulillahi Robbil Alamin, the researcher was able to complete her research successfully, in accordance with the time goal and also the purpose of the research.

Background

Writing is, for obvious reasons, one of the most visible products of education, and incorrect usage and spelling has been accepted as a sign or personal scholastic failure, and a supposedly widespread decline in writing skills and a sign of inadequacy in entire school systems. Writing is an effective way of communicating and expressing your thoughts, feelings and opinions to others. The study focused on writing a procedure text, which is one of the materials in English classes for SMA Negeri 2 Takalar, especially for second year students.

Based on the interview result of the second year English teacher of SMA Negeri 2 Takalar, the teacher said that the average achievement score of students in English language writing in the academic year 2017-2018 is very low and the target score is about 7 ,5. In this case, the students should write well and the teacher should choose the appropriate material to teach it. Based on the above students' problem, the research will apply the technique in teaching writing titled "Improving students' writing ability in procedure text using picture media in eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Takalar Based on problem of the students above, the researcher will apply the procedural text technique in her research because it is a suitable technique to write many title “Improvement.

Problem Statement

And in this research, the use of visual media was successful to address students' writing skills in process text. And in this research, the use of visual media was successful to address students' writing skills in process text. The graph above shows the significant difference between the mean score of the students in the diagnostic test and the result of cycle I.

The graph above shows that the participation of students in the teaching of writing using the media of pictures. Improving students' ability to write good paragraphs through Picture Media has an effective effect.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

The purpose of the study is to know whether the written text of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 11 Bulukumba can be improved by using visual media. A writer with good description is like an artist who paints a picture that can be clearly “seen” in the reader's mind. This section described the activities that led to the writing of the previous essay.

The main idea is stated in the topic sentences and each or every supported sentences and related to that idea of ​​the topic sentences (Arbor, 1999:10). In the organization of the writing concern about the ways by writer arrange and organize the ideas to order the message in the words. Picture is one of the media that can be used by the teacher in teaching writing skill.

Psychologically, the use of image will influence and reflect students' interest, motivation and attitude. This medium can be easily designed and used in the classroom to achieve the goal of the teaching and learning process. Finally, the teacher and students try to analyze the structural pattern and language features of the model text.

They will also try to compare the model text with other examples of the text type.

The students' average score in diagnostic test is while the students' average score in the result of cycle. After evaluation in cycle I, there is considerable improvement in the students' writing skills where the result of cycle I is categorized as good (Average- Good).

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

Discussion

After doing an action in cycle I through Picture Media Experience, the percentage of students' content of unit is 30 students (90.90%) become good and 3 students (9.09%) become very good. The result above also proves that the use of visual media is able to improve students' content of unity, where the result of cycle I is higher than diagnostic-test (cycle I>Diagnostic-Test). The percentage of students' completeness content in writing indicates that 29 students (87.87%) get average, 4 students (12.12%) get good.

After taking an action in cycle I through the Picture Media Experience, the percentage of the students. The percentage of students' organization of coherence in diagnostic test indicates that 31 students (93.93%) get average and 2 students (6.06%) get good. After doing an action in cycle I through Picture Media, the percentage of students' organization of context is 32 students (96.96%) get average and 1 student (3.03%) get very good.

The result above also proves that the use of Picture Media is able to improve the students' organization of coherence where the result of cycle I is higher than diagnostic test (cycle I>Diagnostic test). The result of observing the students' activeness in teaching and learning process to combat the application of Picture Media in improving students' writing ability in procedural text by using picture media in the eleventh grade students of. However, in this research, the researcher finds out the students' writing ability by using picture media at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 2 Takalar.

This indicated that the students' performance in writing ability in cycle 1 reached the standard target performance KKM 7.5. From these findings, the researcher concluded that the use of Picture Media could improve the students' writing ability in procedural text at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 2 Takalar. The implementation of Picture Media also gives the students freedom to organize their ideas, so they can decide what content they want to write and they write the content under the guidance of the teacher.

After repairing the weakness and action in the teaching and learning process using Picture Media, the activity of the students becomes 84% ​​in the last meeting of the cycle I. This means that the use of Picture Media is able to improve the activity of the students in learning . English especially in teaching writing. Developing students' speaking ability through Student-Team-Achievement-Division Type of cooperative learning method.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Suggestion

English teachers are suggested to use Picture Media as one of the alternative ways of teaching writing. English teachers are suggested to guide students as much as possible in learning and teaching the writing process. Using a series of pictures to teach the process of writing a text in the first grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 and mentor sumobito jombang.
