the "Anatomical·and Clinical Post::

established at the I.U. School of Medicine

Known for many years throughout the country as the "Barnhill Course," it consistently offered the most comprehensive course in anatomy and histopathology of the head and neck in the United States. It not only has been the leading refresher course, but it also has brought to specialists the latest applications of research to clinical cases.

The 6lst annual course, now known as "Head and Neck Anatomy and Clinical Otolaryn- gology," will be given July 12-July 23 at the Medical Science Building. The historic offering now is a co-operative effort by the medical school faculty co-ordinated and directed by the Department of Otorhinolaryngology.

Still the most comprehensive course of its type, it prepares physicians for board examinations in plastic surgery and oral surgery as well as otolaryngology. It also serves as a review of current practice for board-certified otolaryngologists and residents in this specialty.

Directors of the course, limited to 30 physicians, include Drs. Raleigh E. Lingeman, David E. Brown, Ronald C. Hamaker, and Laverne B. Tubergen, all of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, and Drs. Robert H. Shellhamer, anatomy, and Garry L. Bolinger, pathology.

SUPER SCOOPERS

To all those who scooped ice cream and did other chores that made last week's IUPUI Bicentennial eventa 3,000-cone success, the Green Sheet extends a patriotic "thank-you!"

The Union Building lawn and the people on it never looked better. The afternoon

open house and the evening employee-recognition program went smoothly, from the calliope music to the fireworks finale.

Interested Reader -- To the Owen County-educated reader who caught us with our computations down, the Green Sheet reports that his/her figures are correct. With the data given, the "Hats 'n' Horns" item in the June 27 Green Sheet should have read: "693 employees will celebrate 6, 060 years of service to IUPUI." The one-room schoolhouse wins again!

Trends -- A study issued last month by the Carnegie Council on Policy Studies in Higher Education says that the role of "general education" has declined noticeably

in American colleges. General education is the part of the curriculum required to assure that students become familiar with a variety of subject areas. ~ased on catalogues from 271 junior and senior colleges and 1,794 student transcripts, the study showed that from 1967 to 1974 the percentage of general education requirements declined from 43 to 34 per cent. The number of institutions requiring English for

graduation fell from 90 to 72 per cent, while those requiring a foreign language dropped from 72 to 53 per cent.
