C

ornafuswasscatteredalloverthe counti-ywestofSt.Johns, and where I killed the eleven specimens ofR. maccowiii'i therewas a flockofabout1000 C. ornatus. There were about500 of7?.marcoxvniiin theflockout ofwhich I got specimens andthetwo speciesseemed then tobe separate.

The

nature of thecountrywhereIfound bothspecieswas verybarren, therewas onlya little shortwhite

gramma

grassand afew weeds.

Two

of thespecimensofi?.maccowniil found on skinning had peculiarparasitical

worms

coiledupinthe lowerouter cornerof theeye space; one hadfiveand the othertwo of theseworms.

They

were about .75ofaninchlong and about a thick as a stoutpiece ofsewingcotton, andof a brightyellowcolor. In both speciesof birds the malespre- dominated, thus of thirteen R. 7naccoiv>nl but one was a female.

Of

eight C.ornafusbutonewasa female. Thisis thefirsttimeIhaveseen either speciesin this district,andasDr.

me

apackageof birdswhichkilledthemselvesagainsthis lightduringthe past spring migration.

Among

them wasapairof short olivegreen wings whichIwasunable to identify.

On

submitting

them

toMr.Ridgway, heat once pronounced

them

to belong toaspecies of Euetheia,and comparison withspecimens in the collection of theU.S.

National

Museum showed

the species tobe E. canora, theMelodious Grassquit, hitherto

known

onlyfrom Cuba.

The

birdwas found dead on thelowerplatform of the light-toweron the

morning

of April17, 188S.

The

windwaseast,moderate; skycloudy.

Another

West

Indian bird is thus addedto the list of those

known

to occuronthe islandsandcoastofsouthernFlorida.

now

in

my

col- lection.

The

wings and tail are

composed

ofpure whiteand ordinary blackish feathersinaboutequalproportions,while the wing-coverts consist of white, oliveand canary-yellowfeathers. All therestof the plumage aboveand belowisbrightcanaryyellow,withoneortwoolivaceousfeath- ers inthemiddleof the back.

The

legsandbillareverylightpink.

The

bird wasin

company

with several normal birds of thesame species.
