Anxiety

Zeidner states that state anxiety is actual research distinguishing between the individual's actual anxiety experiences in a specific situation. According to Spielberger in Zeidner, state anxiety refers to a transient emotional state of tension and arousal determined by the interaction between a person's traits and the current situation. Spielberger in Zeidner says that trait anxiety refers to a consistent tendency to react with anxiety in different contexts.

Many previous studies stated that preparation becomes one of the main factors that make students anxious (Liu also lists "preparation" in their top lists of how to overcome anxiety). It is therefore clear that a lack of preparation becomes one of the problems that drive students Anxiety during speaking lessons. Feeling uncomfortable when you are stared at by other students while speaking is a source of anxiety often experienced by language learners.

One of the factors students' concerns in speaking is fear of making mistakes. As Liao reported, “I like to speak English, but I am in front of others, I will be nervous and cannot say any words because I am afraid that others will laugh at me if I make some mistakes”(as cited in Liu, 2007:130). In line with this, Baldwin (2011:13) further explains that speaking in front of people is one of the more common phobias faced by students and the feeling of shyness makes their mind go blank or that they will forget what they have to say.

  • Suggestion

The discussion of the research detected the administration of the questionnaire and the analysis of the applied factor analysis through SPSS 16.0 to know the factors that affect the students' anxiety in external and internal factors in speaking English in second grade MT students. It was previously stated that four factors influence students' English speaking anxiety. Based on the results of factor analysis using SPSS 16.0, the researcher found that friends/classmates were the most factors that influenced students' anxiety to speak English, followed by limited vocabulary, next lack of preparation and grammatical errors.

This result is consistent with Cortazzi and Jin (1996) who stated that students' poor vocabulary is one of the reasons why students are silent listeners and not active participants in the oral English class. It means that the lack of preparation was a sufficient factor that affected students' anxiety to speak English. The grammar variable was 0.57 and the number of grammatical errors was lower.

Based on the results of factor analysis with SPSS 16.0, the researcher found that shyness was the most factor that influenced students' anxiety to speak English, followed by motivation, fear of making a mistake, and lack of self-confidence. Shyness is part of the factors influencing students' anxiety in internally focused leadership. This means that shyness had the greatest influence on students' English speaking anxiety.

It means that motivation was the factor that influenced students' fear of speaking English. Fear of making mistakes is one of the factors influencing students' anxiety, which focuses on internal factors. The result of this research variable 'Afraid to make mistakes' (0.68) showed that the number of 'afraid to make mistakes' was the third factor influencing students' anxiety.

This means that fear of making mistakes was a moderating factor influencing students' anxiety to speak English. Lack of self-confidence is part of the factors that influence students' anxiety, which focuses on the internal. The lack of self-confidence variable was lower than all factors with a score of 0.60.

It means that lack of self-confidence is less of a factor that influenced students' English speaking anxiety. It has been shown that the number of friends/classmates is greater than all other factors for external factors.
