The effect of English Podcast on students‟ improvement in listening skill
Based on the data shown in Table 4.1, the experimental group showed the result of 20 students, 2 (10%) students were categorized as very good. Before the researcher administered the treatment, both the experimental and control groups were given a pre-test to determine the students' prior abilities. Moreover, the purpose of the test conducted by the researcher is to find out whether both the experimental and control groups were at the same level or not.
Based on the listening test ranking, the mean score of the control group (55.50) was considered fair with a standard deviation of 17.74. From the ranking of results and the percentage level from the experimental group and as shown in Table 4.3, out of 20 students, 8 (40%) students obtained very good ranking, and there were 12 (40%) students who were well ranked, while the rest of the classification showed that none of the students were in this category. The experimental group and the control group completed a post-test, which was designed to obtain the mean score and standard deviation.
The table above shows that the mean score of the control group was 57.50 with a standard deviation of 11.44. From the above description, it can be concluded that the mean score and standard deviation for both the experimental group and the control group before and after the research (pre-test and post-test) showed that there is little improvement in the listening comprehension test in the control group from the mean score of 55 .50 in the pretest and 57.50 in the posttest, but still in the fair ranking. While the experimental group even showed a slight improvement from the mean score of 72.50 in the pre-test and 78.5 in the post-test, the classification improved to a good and very good level of classification.
It means that there is a significant improvement before and after using Video Podcast in English in the experimental group after treatment.
