IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO OUR CONTRIBUTORS

The University Calendar, which is distributed with the Green Sheet every two weeks, is intended to carry all items that occur on scheduled dates, such as

seminars, special lectures, concerts, or other events of interest to the campus.

It was created to leave more space in the Green Sheet for other items.

(2)

Our correspondents are missing the

University Calendar

deadlines, forcing many items into the

Green Sheet.

Sometimes meetings are not scheduled until the last minute, but most of the time these dates are known at least a month in advance.

Following are deadlines for the

University Calendar.

Be sure to observe them or your meeting, lecture or seminar may be left out because of the press of other items. These deadlines all are p.m. Monday and apply to the two-week period beginning the following Monday.

Nov. 8; Nov. 22; Dec. 6; Dec. 20; Jan. 3; Jan. 7; Jan. 31. We will announce other deadlines in January.

MASTER'S IN GEOLOGY APPROVED

The subject of the environment and the city, including the geologic problems and needs of large, metropolitan cities, will be incorporated into a master's degree program in geology to begin next fall in the Department of Geology of the School of Science. The program was approved by the I.U. board of trustees at its meet- ing at I.U.-Kokomo on Nov. 5. Approval now will be sought from the Indiana Com- mission for Higher Education.

Land use planning, one of the program's emphases, will help geologists working for the city with landfill problems, a major concern here in the past few months.

Dr. Glenn W. Irwin Jr., I.U. vice-president for Indianapolis, said the ''geology program was designed with the needs of the Indianapolis metropolitan area in mind and demonstrates how IUPUI and the Purdue School of Science are developing

the scientific base required for economic development.
