What is Extension ?
• “Extension is the provision of service by an academic unit, faculty, staff, and students
(outside of course requirements) ,
individually , or as a group to the people and other organizations. This function of
the University is a contribution to
achieving excellence in social and public service . Extension GENERATES,
VALIDATES, and APPLIES knowledge that can enrich instruction and research. “

What is Extension ?
• “Extension includes services utilizing expertise and talent related to one’s
discipline, outside instruction and
research , such as non-degree training , seminars, workshops, conferences,
review classes ( except UP CAT), advisory/technical information services, exhibits, performances, consultancies ( without professional
fees), networking, advocacy, and volunteer community work . “

SURVEY BRIEF
• Aim was to determine the actual practice,
scope and extent of extension services in UP Diliman
• Survey used a 7-page , 11 –question
questionnaire with deans, directors, and chairs, coordinators as respondents.
• Conducted first quarter of 2012 .
• Got 35 valid responses from 10
deans/directors, 4 deputy directors, 14
chairs/ assistant chairs and 7 extension
committee chairs/coordinators .
