The Impact of Ageism on the Psychological Well-being of the Elderly at the Wisma Mulia Nursing Home in West Jakarta

ABSTRACT
Ageism is an age discrimination that often attacks unproductive age groups, especially older age groups.
The frequent physical and psychological decline in older people has resulted in different treatments, isolation, and loneliness. This phenomenon is often seen in everyday life but some people are unaware.
A high level of ageism treatment is thought to lower the psychological well-being of the elderly. In a previous study conducted by Yulia Fitria (2021) the result was that improving self-esteem can be used as one of the efforts to improve the psychological well-being of the elderly. Therefore, this study wants to see if there is an ageism relationship with psychological well-being in the elderly at the Werdha Wisma Mulia Home in West Jakarta. In this study, correlation tests were used. As for the measurement tool used for ageism scale, namely perceived ageism questionnaire (PAQ) from Lotte P. Brinkhof, et al (2022). To measure the scale of psychological well-being, using the psychological well-being scale (PWBS) from Carol Ryff (1989). The number of subjects consists approximately 50 people and uses a probability sampling technique that is the total population sampling with a research questionnaire to be shared directly. From the research results it will be possible to determine whether there is a link between ageism and psychological well-being of the elderly. It is hoped that when the elderly knows this, they will influence the elderly to be wiser in dealing with ageism.
