The Impact Of Implementing Kurikulum Merdeka For Students And Teachers
Since the implementation of the independent curriculum since 2020 yesterday by replacing the previous curriculum.
In 2020 the world is experiencing an outbreak of COVID 19. This has had an impact on almost all sectors in a country, without exception the education sector. The impact experienced by Indonesia in the field of education is quite serious, where Indonesia experiences a learning loss equivalent to 6 months related to literacy and 5 months related to numeracy. This learning loss is the loss of students' knowledge and abilities caused by various factor.
One effort to reduce the impact of learning loss is to implement an independent curriculum. Minister of
Education, Culture, Research and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim said that this independent curriculum was part of the Freedom to Learn policy launched to reduce the impact of loss learning caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kurikulum merdeka is a curriculum that gives freedom to students to learn what they want, even though it is not in accordance with the path. For example, a student majoring in natural sciences wants to study economics, sociology, or other social studies subjects, this is permissible. Vice versa, IPS students can learn about biology, physics, and other science subjects if they are interested.
Kurikulum merdeka belajar has been implemented in many educational units in Indonesia. In implementing a new mechanism, it will certainly have an impact felt by the parties involved in it. The implementation of this independent curriculum also has an impact felt by students, teachers, and also other education personnel. The
perceived impact is also divided into two, the positive impact and the negative impact
The positive impacts felt by students include changes in student learning. In the independent curriculum students are given the opportunity to explore and express their learning interests, this aims to form students with a spirit of competence and good character. In addition, this independent curriculum also has an effect on student activity in learning. Students will find it difficult to achieve certain educational goals that are only notes and are determined by the curriculum. This is because this kind of curriculum is only based on target numbers and students often feel burdened with these target numbers. but in this independent curriculum, students do not only focus on target numbers, but each student has the opportunity to explore other segments, such as character, thinking patterns, to the decision-making process needed to become a better person in their life.
The weak side of kurikulum merdeka is the learning that students live is not focused because at one time they study two different topics. For example, at the elementary level, science subjects are combined with social studies. This makes the focus split because the material is more complex.
From the teacher's side, kurikulum merdeka has a positive relationship with the development of teacher potential as well as an independent teaching platform. This can be seen from the existence of the Teacher Mobilization and Teacher Professional Education (PPG) programs, with the birth of quality educators who will be able to develop and maintain the independent curriculum to be good and even better.
Kurrikulum merdeka does have many benefits, but besides that there are also a number of things that might become obstacles. For students who really have a high enthusiasm and interest in learning as well as sufficient understanding, this curriculum is a great opportunity to gain knowledge in
other fields, so that they have broad knowledge and experience.
